What Does the London Arrest of Dr Heiko Schoning Mean?

On Saturday 26th September, Dr Heiko Schoning, was arrested in London’s Hyde Park after appearing at a protest in Trafalgar Square earlier in the day.  Why was he arrested, rather than any other speaker?  What does his arrest mean?

The Trafalgar Square protest was the third held over a series of Saturday’s.  The date of September 26th was important as it was a few days before UK members of parliament were to vote on extending the Coronavirus Act.  The organisers completed a risk assessment and had permission from Westminster Council to hold the event (protests are permitted under current restrictions which prohibit gatherings of more than six people).

Trafalgar Square was starting to fill up when proceedings started around 12.00 am.  The atmosphere was peaceful.  Many of those attendingwere aware that the police had moved in on a similar rally the previous weekend.  Some had been briefed to sit down if the police moved in and to avoid reacting to any police aggression.

People of all ages and from all walks of life were there.  The PA system was not really up to the job, and so many of us who were there could not actually hear what was being said.  The event was livestreamed and so more people who had seen it online travelled in by tube to try and join in the protest.  However, many were unable to do so, as the police blocked the exits from the nearest tube stations.

A change in atmosphere

At around 3.00 pm we were observing proceedings from the north concourse of Trafalgar Square.  From there we were able to chat with our friend John in a socially distanced bubble.  At this point David Icke was speaking.

John had been to the previous weeks protest.  Suddenly his manner changed “They’ve closed the road…be careful…they’re about to do something.”  As Icke finished he was escorted away by the organisers and Dr Schoning took the stand.  This was the point at which the police moved in; Dr Schoning did not get to give his talk.

From our position we saw a long line of police moving towards us from the west.  We quickly walked away from them, only to be met by a similar line coming towards us from the east.  The main crowd was to the south, the National gallery blocked our way to the north.  We were being kettled (a tactic police use on crowds at football matches).  People were scared and started screaming and running in a panic.  A frightened woman, on her own, asked us for help.  We got out around the edge of the police line, climbing over a small wall.  Others, trapped in the main square, had to scale larger walls.  None of us heard any warning from the police.

At the same time the police surrounded the PA system, disconnecting and disinfecting it, later carrying it away.  Many protestors, stirred up by the police action, marched purposefully up Regent Street and along Oxford Street to Hyde Park’s Speakers Corner (the centre of free speech in the UK).  Some onlookers joined them.  The procession stretched as far as the eye could see.

When they reached Speakers Corner there was, once again, a serious riot police presence (with helmets and batons).  After he started to give his speech Dr Schoning was surrounded, arrested, handcuffed and loaded into a police van. He was taken away to Wandsworth Police Station where he was held overnight, accused of organising the event (when he was just a speaker).  He was discharged 22 hours later and taken to the airport supported by people involved in the demonstrations.  His phone and laptop were kept by the police.

A serious threat?

Why did the police choose to move in when Dr Schoning started to speak?  Why did they arrest him, rather than the other speakers?

Whilst the arrest was widely covered in independent and social media, the mainstream media ignored what, in my view, was one of the most significant events of the week.  They were made aware of it.

Many people think that Dr Schoning, a frontline health professional, represents a serious threat to the official narrative.  They suspect that it was important to stop him being heard.  His arrest may also send a message to UK health professionals who have been ordered not to speak out by their ultimate employer, the National Health Service (NHS).  According to one ex-NHS Doctor “99% of Doctors are employed by the NHS; if they speak out, they risk losing their jobs…forever.”

A strengthening of resolve

Dr Schonings was the latest in a series of arrests of people who have been involved in the recent protests.  Kate Shemirani had spoken at previous rallies and was recently arrested on the streets of Westminster.  In a video interview she explained that a van containing plain clothes officers stopped and detained her, charging her for organising two protests and inciting violence.  Like Schoning, she claims she was not the organiser, just a speaker.

Shemirani, like Dr Schoning, has frontline medical experience.  She is an ex-nurse, suspended by the Nursing and Midwifery Council in July.  In February this year she spoke about her views of links between 5G and Covid on local radio station Uckfield FM saying that Wuhan was a “test city” for 5G.  This led to the station receiving a warning by Ofcom, a pre-cursor to a similar warning received by London Live when they re-broadcast a Brian Rose interview with David Icke.  Rose was subsequently de-platformed from YouTube and set up his own distribution system.  As Rose has pointed out, as well as overseeing most broadcast media, Ofcom are also responsible for the spectrum allocation (i.e. the roll-out of 5G).

Shemirani has garnered significant public support in some quarters, with the Daily Mail running an interview with her headlined “Is this the most dangerous woman in Britain?”  Both Shemirani and Schoning are presentable and speak clearly against the current measures being taken by the UK and other governments.  Shemirani, more than Schoning, refers to covid as a conspiracy.

For many who attended on September 26th the experience was a shock:

“I’d not been to demo’s before.  It was really scary; more like something you’d see on the telly from Hong Kong.”

For most it has strengthened their resolve to attend the next rally and opened their eyes to some of the issues raised by campaign groups such as Big Brother Watch, The Manifesto Club and StopWatch.  These groups have variously campaigned against state intrusion in everyday life, and for freedom of speech, police accountability and transparency.  Their work appears all the more important now.

A turning point?

The events of September 26th may mark a turning point.  Whilst the UK parliament extended the emergency powers it has given itself under the Coronavirus Act, 56 conservative MP’s signed the Brady amendment asking for time to debate measures before they are implemented.  The Act was renewed without the amendment being debate; some small concessions were granted.

Prior to the rally the Health secretary, Matt Hancock, had warned of covid cases doubling every 8 days stoking fears of exponential rises in cases.  The data did not bear this out and cases have not continued to grow exponentially.  Privately, as the Conservative party starts its annual conference online, many Tories are expressing disgust at such lies.

From a medical perspective the lack of a strong voice in the UK has been notable.  However, in a Royal Society of Medicine webinar on Thursday, a small group of UK experts expressed a distinct lack of panic as regards the epidemiological evidence, pointing to the importance of natural defence systems and cross-immunity.  Many people may never get covid-19.

Is the covid bubble about to burst?

The latest NHS England data broadcast by Independent SAGE shows around 300 hospital admissions per day ‘with covid’ at the end of September.  This equates to covid hospitalisation being a once in a lifetime experience for 1 in 5 people.  Nothing to panic about here.  Analysis shows that these 300 admissions will include people who were admitted for something else and subsequently tested positive for covid.

At this point, my reading of the data is, that without extended exponential growth in hospitalisation and cases, the covid bubble is over.  It may take a couple of weeks to confirm this, and a little longer for the establishment to reverse the measures, but my hope is that covid will be relegated to (or recognised as) a much lower position in the overall hierarchy of health threats.

In terms of civil liberties and freedom of speech, the arrest of Dr Schoning has been a wake up call to many who see it as an escalation of unwelcome state impositions.  For some of us in technical or scientific occupations it has sent a chill down our spine; for many others it has strengthened their resolve to fight their battle.  Dr Schoning’s arrest deserves wider attention.
