I doubt, but do not know, if Joe, the founders of this website, its editor, will agree with this comment. For I doubt, but do not know, how many have read the first paragraph that Galileo Galilei wrote in ‘Dialogues Concerning Two New Sciences’ in the original Italian or English as translated by Crew and de Salvio (1914). However, I know I had not read it in either language until near the end of my 20+ year career as an instructor of introductory chemistry at a community college. So I know what a mistake that was and do not want anyone, non-scientist, engineer, or experienced scientist like myself, to live beyond this moment of time and not have read what Galileo wrote in his first statement.

“The constant activity which you Venetians display in your famous arsenal suggests to the studious mind a large field for investigation, especially that part of the work which involves mechanics; for in this department all types of instruments and machines are constantly being constructed by many artisans, among whom there must be some who, partly by inherited experience and partly by their own observations, have become highly expert and clever in explanation.”
Joe, an engineer, qualifies as being an artisan, but did this make, these artisans long ago, SCIENTISTS? My answer is NO! For Galileo considered he had a gift, Two New Sciences, to give to these artisans.
