The False Promise Of Affordable Green Energy
Here is Michael Schellenberger writing about Germany’s “ambitious” (as it is always called) green energy transition known as die Energiewende (energy transition, or turning point)
For some background, Energiewende is a series of policies first passed in 2010 with the object of completely transitioning the country away from conventional, carbon-emitting energy sources including coal, oil, and natural gas, and towards ones classified as low-to-zero carbon like nuclear, solar, wind, and biomass.
After the Fukushima disaster in 2011, it was decided that Germany would move away from nuclear energy as well, with the aspiration of having the country run exclusively on so-called renewable energy by 2022.
As Schellenberger notes, since its passage Energiewende has been a constant source of hope for leftists the world over, because it gives them something to aim for.
Their contention is that it will show the world that cheap green energy is possible and that it can easily be reproduced anywhere in the world.
Of course, their panegyrics have been light on specifics. In fact, the actual results of Energiewende have been mixed so far:
[L]ast year, Germany was forced to acknowledge that it had to delay its phase-out of coal, and would not meet its 2020 greenhouse gas reduction commitments. It announced plans to bulldoze an ancient church and forest in order to get at the coal underneath it.
That’s right — as the fracking revolution has contributed to America’s leading the world in carbon emissions decline, green Germany is bulldozing forests for the purposes of mining coal.
The problem is twofold. First, green energy sources produce much less energy than traditional ones.
This was once treated as a feature, not a bug, by environmentalists, who believe that modern society requires too much energy, and the best way to fix that is, to borrow a phrase, “starving the beast.”
But as this Luddite attitude is a hard sell to most people, modern environmentalists have adjusted by promising exciting new technologies that are always just over the horizon.
“Governments and private investors poured $2 trillion into solar and wind and related infrastructure” since 2000, according to Schellenberger, though with not a great deal of substantive advancement to show for it.
This touches on the second problem — the expense.
Schellenberger points out that average Germans are increasingly frustrated with the cost (€32 billion annually) of the project, an amount which is only projected to increase.
“Der Spiegel cites a recent estimate that it would cost Germany ‘€3.4 trillion ($3.8 trillion),’ or seven times more than it spent from 2000 to 2025, to increase solar and wind three to five-fold by 2050.”
Public opposition will put heat on the move to renew the twenty-year wind and solar energy subsidies which expire this year, the loss of which would be devastating.
What’s more, the obsession with “net-zero” has led to the type of environmental despoliation which oil and gas companies are often accused of — “Solar farms take 450 times more land than nuclear plants, and wind farms take 700 times more land than natural gas wells, to produce the same amount of energy.”
As bad as bulldozing churches and forests is for coal sounds in modern Germany, it will apparently be much worse if they ever do go completely renewable.

The United States Strategic Petroleum Reserve is currently at 635.2 million barrels of oil. 635 million barrels of oil equals 1,079,123,092,000 megawatts. 1,079,123,092,000/100 = 10,791,230,920; 10,791,230,920 X $3.6 billion[1] = $3,884,831,310,000,000,000,000,000,000 (octillion).
The United States’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2017 was $19,390,000,000,000 (trillion). Battery storage to replace the strategic petroleum reserve would cost more than 100,000 GDPs!
THERMODYNAMICS AWOL
Climate change mechanics conspires to do away with the physics of the atmosphere, where action and reaction is abandoned. When a new gas molecule is introduced into the dense troposphere, dislocation takes place, where if the new molecule is denser than the atmosphere (contains less heat energy), such as carbon dioxide, the gas molecule sinks displacing upwards the warmer nitrogen and oxygen molecules, thereby cooling the area of dislocation. Conversely, if the new gas molecule has more heat energy than the nitrogen-oxygen based atmosphere (such as methane), the new molecule rises, displacing relatively cooler nitrogen and oxygen molecules downwards, which displaces upwards relatively more heat retaining nitrogen and oxygen molecules, thereby cooling the area of dislocation. Thermodynamics in action in the atmosphere that keeps the Earth cool when increased radiation isn’t the new variable introduced.

The identity of the mass murderers that have co-opted the globe’s institutions identify themselves as Marxists, most being unaware that they are, in fact, manipulated by a top level leadership cadre composed of humanity’s arch enemy’s combatants, Satanists.

Nitrogen and oxygen constitute, by volume, 99.03% of the atmosphere’s gasses, while the trace gases account for 0.97%, or just under 1% of the atmosphere’s gasses. If we include water vapor (H2O) in the atmosphere, which accounts for, on average, 2% of the atmosphere’s gases by volume, we therefore subtract this 2% from the atmosphere’s gasses, where nitrogen and oxygen will constitute 97.0494%, and the trace gasses will constitute 0.9506%.
Nitrogen and oxygen don’t absorb much infrared radiation (IR) emitted from the ground, and assuming they absorb 100% of thermal energy from the surface, constituting approximately 5% of Earth’s energy budget, we’re left with a massive energy deficit for nitrogen and oxygen, confirming that those two molecules derive their energy from thermal ground/ocean emissions instead, but since the ‘climate change’ narrative identifies such emissions as not thermal but IR, we have proof that the energy being emitted isn’t IR but thermal because nitrogen and oxygen absorb a miniscule amount of IR.
We’re told that Nitrogen and oxygen obtain 5.1% of their heat energy from thermal energy emanating from the surface…

Since nitrogen and oxygen constitute by volume 97.0494% of the atmosphere’s gasses (when water vapor is included in the calculations making for a more precise calculation), they must therefore retain that volume amount of heat energy, but 18.4 Wm2 only constitutes 5.1% of the Earth’s Energy Budget of 358.2 Wm2. Nitrogen and oxygen’s absorption of infrared radiation would only infinitesimally affect this missing heat energy.
The missing energy levels for nitrogen and oxygen direct our attention to another aspect of the scientific fraud taking place: Misidentified outgoing energy types. IR is assigned an energy magnitude of 358.2 Wm2, and thermals 18.4 Wm2. The opposite is closer to the truth, where IR is assigned 18.4 Wm2, and thermals 358.2 Wm2.

Gunter Walther, a former colleague of Comrade Angela Merkel at the Academy of Sciences in East Berlin, reveaed that Merkel had been secretary for “Agitation and Propaganda” in the Freie Deutsche Jugend (Free German Youth; FDJ) organization at the institute, rising quickly within the organization, becoming Secretary of Political Education – the most important role in the organization. Merkel, a trained physicist,[2] worked at the academy from 1978 until 1989. Merkel has long lied about her family’s Marxist past, saying that her FDJ role at the academy was more that of a cultural secretary and that her duties included buying theater tickets and organizing book readings.
Former German Transport Minister Günther Krause, an eastern German politician who worked with Merkel in the final months of the GDR, and as a fellow minister in the government of ex-chancellor Helmut Kohl in the early 1990s, also contradicts the lies divulging that Angela Merkel propagated Marxism-Leninism, With Agitation and Propaganda you’re responsible for brainwashing in the sense of Marxism, he said. “That was her task and that wasn’t cultural work. Agitation and Propaganda, that was the group that was meant to fill people’s brains with everything you were supposed to believe in the GDR, with all the ideological tricks. Today, Merkel insists that her job was menial, involving “organising theatre tickets and the like”. But this is simply untrue: she was an ambitious political activist. School-friends from her childhood town Templin remember the German leader still as a “Marxist loyal to the Party line”, in the furtherance of which she held a formal position within her class. A student who knows Merkel from the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, remembers a “convinced communist who brought her class-mates into line”.
Merkel’s Marxist pedigree is familial, her father, Horst Kasner, was a Christian imposter serving in the Lutheran church, described by contemporaries as ‘Red Kasner’, who in 1954 picked up the family and actually moved to East Germany when every non-Marxist East German was looking for a way out, many murdered as they attempted to flee East Germany to freedom. Contrary to the official Marxist narrative, ‘Red Kasner’ wasn’t posted to East Germany by the West German Lutheran church, a lie affirmed by other sources.
At a time when East German authorities were persecuting all those who were religious, Rev. ‘Red Kasner’ was the exception, doing quite well for himself and family, his ‘religious’ credentials inexplicably assisting Angela in her professional endeavors in the Marxist DDR, when other children belonging to religious families were denied the educational perks the state had to offer. Material comforts not enjoyed by most East Germans, including Marxist East Germans, were also afforded the Kasner’s, where the family had a smart apartment and access to two cars. Almost uniquely, Horst Kasner was allowed by the Party to travel to the West, so loyal was he felt to be.

Germany like so many western governments are totally besotted by the stupid notion of ‘free energy’ and the pipe-dream of perpetual motion. These fools, these idiot leaders and their legions of bureaucrats are disfiguring the true ideas of scientific progress while wasting $billions on schemes that will cripple their nations.
If wind and solar energy hold so much merit then NO subsidies are required, private industry and the open market would finance it, NOT the taxpayer.
