The Case Against Using Children in Climate Lawsuits

Throughout history, the involvement of children in adult-driven narratives has been a recurring phenomenon, manifesting across diverse contexts such as political propaganda, religious movements, marketing campaigns, social causes, and legal battles

Here I explore the various ways in which children have been used by adults to advance certain agendas, and the recent rise of this practice in support of the climate crisis narrative, emphasizing the complexities and ethical considerations surrounding its use.

In the realm of political propaganda, children have often been instrumentalized to evoke emotional responses or to reinforce ideological doctrines.

For instance, during World War II, Nazi Germany extensively utilized imagery of children to promote Aryan ideals and nationalistic fervor, capitalizing on the innocence of youth to legitimize their oppressive regime.

Similarly, communist states have historically employed children in propaganda materials, depicting them as the bright future of the socialist state, thus embedding state ideology from a young age.

Religious movements have not been immune to this trend. In several instances, children have been portrayed as bearers of divine messages or as symbols of purity, thus lending a sense of legitimacy and moral authority to the religious cause.

This portrayal often hinges on the societal perception of children as uncorrupted vessels, capable of conveying spiritual truths untainted by worldly biases.

The commercial sphere, particularly advertising, has long recognized the persuasive power of children. Advertisements frequently feature children to create an emotional appeal or to suggest honesty and trustworthiness associated with youth.

By leveraging the universal sentiments of care and protection towards children, marketers effectively endear products and brands to the public.

In more recent times, the role of children in social and political causes has garnered significant attention. Historical movements like the Civil Rights Movement in the United States powerfully utilized the imagery of young children facing racial injustice to catalyze public opinion and empathy.

In legal and advocacy realms, children have occasionally been at the forefront, sometimes as plaintiffs in environmental lawsuits or as representatives in debates over educational and healthcare policies.

These cases often hinge on the idea that children, as the inheritors of the future, have a vested interest in the outcomes of such legal battles.

Our Children’s Trust is a non-profit organization that uses litigation to advocate for climate action. They represent young people in lawsuits against the US government, arguing that the government’s failure to address ‘climate change’ violates their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property.

The organization’s use of children as plaintiffs is disgusting.

Our Children’s Trust argues that it is a powerful way to highlight the intergenerational consequences of ‘climate change’ and to give a voice to those who are most vulnerable to its effects, yet young people today face the lowest risk from climate-related natural disasters than any generation previous.

They also argue that it is a necessary tactic to force the government to take action on an issue that is often ignored… although nearly $400 billion of the Inflation Reduction Act is geared towards climate.

However, I argue that using children as plaintiffs is exploitative and manipulative.

Children are not capable of understanding the complex legal issues involved and that they are being used as pawns, or perhaps useful idiots is more appropriate, in a political agenda.

Furthermore, these lawsuits are unlikely to succeed and they could have unintended consequences, such as making it more difficult for the government to facilitate development and growth.

The use of children to advocate for a ‘climate emergency’ narrative, while masquerading as noble on the surface, raises profound ethical and moral concerns.

While advocating for their self-serving narratives these organizations commonly overlook the potential manipulation of children’s understanding and emotions.

The fine line between empowering youth and exploiting their limited experience and susceptibility to influence is a matter of grave concern. This approach not only risks the psychological well-being of the children involved, exposing them to the complexities and burdens of global issues prematurely, but it also raises questions about the authenticity of the advocacy itself.

When children are positioned at the forefront of such campaigns, it’s crucial to ask: Are we witnessing a genuine expression of their concerns, or are we seeing a reflection of adult anxieties and agendas?

This strategy reeks of desperation, a final, unscrupulous gambit to perpetuate the dubious enterprise of a ‘climate emergency’ through the courts, using children.

It’s a cynical maneuver, leveraging the vulnerability of minors to prop up a faltering agenda.

This tactic exposes not only the moral bankruptcy of organizations such as Our Children’s Trust but also an alarming willingness to sacrifice the well-being of children on the altar of their self-serving climate crisis narrative.

The education system appears to be the major user of ‘little soldiers’ that I can see. Images of raised fists, and instructions to write open letters to media in the name of climate, that are hidden within pages of homework, is diabolical.

Christianity basic learning gives way to any other religion in preference. These places are awash with individuals that do not deserve to be there.
The more you engage with these people on matters of your child, the more corruption is uncovered.

They are making war on us in so many ways, and now through children. This ever growing army of brainwashed children demanding climate change and more socialism and the end to our way of life, is a serious threat.
