Profound Autism: The Lancet Commission
Profound autism, a term formally recognized by The Lancet Commission, describes a subset of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who require 24-hour support and assistance due to significant intellectual disability and limited to no language skills.
This term aims to better address the specific needs of this highly vulnerable population within the broader autism spectrum.
Clarke et al from UCLA as summarized this severe childhood neuropsychiatric disorder rising at alarming rates:
New prevalence estimates from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found that over a quarter, 26.7%, of children with autism in the United States meet criteria for profound autism (26), suggesting that in the United States, a substantial minority of children with autism may be at increased risk of experiencing stigma due to the nature and intensity of their autism symptoms.
Additional work is needed to further understand the prevalence of profound autism, particularly in clinical and community-based samples, so we can better understand what proportion of autistic individuals and their families may experience stigma related to profound autism. Such information is also critical to improving service planning for this population, as most profoundly autistic individuals cannot speak for themselves and are likely to need intensive support services for much or all their lives.
The lack of concern over the etiology of profound autism is my greatest worry. The CDC message is to simply get ready for more support and care services for the tidal wave of toddlers with profound autism in the next few years. Without efforts to identify modifiable risk factors, (eg combination early childhood vaccination, febrile seizures of any cause, environmental toxins) our public health agencies and special interest groups are walking us into an existential societal disaster under the monikers of of “neurodiversity” and “neurodivergence.”

No vaccines are safe, anyone that thinks they are, should have a hard look at themselves. Never had a Covid or Flu vaccine . Haven’t had Covid or the Flu. Pumping vaccines into a child is criminal. Doctors are baffled at the number of Autism & Sid cases. What could it be ?

The government contributing to mental illness to demoralize people, saying that those mental illnesses aren’t mental illnesses, but natural states of being that are incurable, healthy and worthy of celebration, and encouraging the dehumanization of people who say otherwise, through the narrative that they’re vile racists who are just born wanting to kill people different from them for no reason?
This is way less demoralizing when you remember that, not only is this meant to demoralize you, but totalitarianism, humans being blindly hateful sheep, and high risks of death have always composed the majority of history. Kings have always arrested you for criticizing them, humans have always killed everyone who challenges their groupthink, and we were always prey, if not for disease, then for animals, natural disasters and other humans. In America, you can walk up to people spreading anti-vax propaganda and there will be no repercussions. That is a huge W. I don’t know why you guys don’t spread in-person fliers instead of digital content, as it’s only what’s digital that’s allowed to be censored.
I’m a gen Z female who used to mock the “anti-vaxxers and transphobes”, and the COVID vax thing seemed to accidentally DRASTICALLY increase the amount of us little anti-semite goblins. Basically nobody likes the trans now, and this is the first time ever I’m seeing anti-vaxxers on a regular basis; before, nobody knew we existed, and now, I’m seeing us on a regular basis. We’re winning. (And, if you’re Christian, the whole point of this world is for God to win, so leave the moral judgement to him and don’t let yourself be downed by things that aren’t your fault or responsibility.)

The saddest thing I’ve read about this type of autism is about the aging single parent who has no-one to fall back on and who as they become more aware of their approaching death, decides instead, to take their life along with their adult child. This is not isolated.
