New Study Proves Earth Warmer than Today During the Medieval Era

For years, climate activists and their allies in the scientific community have attempted to downplay—or outright deny—the existence of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP), a significant global climatic era roughly 1,000 years ago.

Their motivation is clear: if the world was demonstrably warmer a millennium ago, before the industrial revolution and its “carbon emissions,” then the entire premise of man-made catastrophic climate change becomes highly suspect.

The above graph never appeared again in any official UN publications. It was quietly removed. Also not shown, for example, was the earliest documented vineyards in England that were noted in the Domesday Book of 1087, primarily located in the southern regions and a few in the north with reports of vineyards and wine making in Yorkshire – inconceivable in our cooler, modern times.

Now, a new study published in the reputable journal Communications Earth and Environment delivers a devastating blow to those who doubt the MWP . Researchers have uncovered incontrovertible physical proof that the MWP was not only real, but it was also a global phenomenon, warming even the most stable and frigid region on Earth: the Antarctic continent.

A Meltwater Carving in an “Eternal” Glacier

The study, led by an international team including Emanuele Forte of the University of Trieste and Mauro Guglielmin of the University of Insubria, focused on the Boulder Clay Glacier in Victoria Land, East Antarctica . This region is supposed to be one of the most stable environments on the planet, having been frozen solid for approximately 14 million years . Yet, by using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and drilling four boreholes, the researchers made a startling discovery.

They found a massive glacial unconformity—a distinct break in the ice stratigraphy—marked by a continuous sediment layer and a dramatic erosion channel . This channel, more than 4 kilometers long, was carved by intense meltwater flow that, at the time, was powerful enough to cut deep into the glacier’s surface . Today, this area is permanently snow-covered and shows no sign of surface melting, highlighting the extraordinary nature of this medieval event .

Radiocarbon Dating: The Smoking Gun

The clinching piece of evidence came from the depths of the ice. At 11.11 meters below the surface, the team found leafy mosses suitable for radiocarbon dating. The results were definitive: the moss was 1,050 calibrated years old, placing it squarely in the middle of the Medieval Warm Period, between 900 and 989 years before the present .

This is not a proxy record that requires questionable interpretation; this is physical, biological proof. Moss grew, meltwater flowed, and a landscape transformation occurred in a region where that is supposedly impossible today.

A Natural Climate Fluctuation of Immense Power

The researchers noted that this event was “extraordinary” and the result of a “natural climatic fluctuation” . This is a key point that skeptics have been making for decades. The planet has experienced periods of significant warming that were not caused by human activity.
