Media’s Crafty Coverage Of Cold Weather

Parts of the River Thames in London froze recently following subzero temperatures across the UK. The last time this happened was in 1963. The Netherlands shivered at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Across the Atlantic, Americans experienced extreme February snowfall, causing power outages for millions of homes in Texas. In Russia, near-record snowfall levels were witnessed during Valentine’s weekend.

Unmistakably, there have been extremely cold events across Europe and North America. These are certainly newsworthy events and did make headlines.

But there was a glaring difference in which the mainstream media carried these news events. When record hot events occur, the news is immediately linked to climate change.

But during cold weather events, seldom does the mainstream media analyze why these events contradict their predictions of milder Winters.

When Predictions Do Not Match Reality

The majority of the world’s major mainstream media—especially those of which regularly spotlight hot weather events as signs of climate apocalypse—did not address the fact that the extreme cold stood in stark contrast to the theories of climate alarmists.

Climate alarmists—those who believe that man-made greenhouse gas emissions are driving us into a certain climate apocalypse due to increased temperatures—have been suggesting that the on-going changes in climate are likely to increase global temperature levels, not just in summer but in winter too.

In fact, it made some alarmists (even scientists) incorrectly predict that “snow would be thing of the past.”

In the year 2000, David Viner from the University of East Anglia said, “children just aren’t going to know what snow is.”

David Parker from the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research said, “British children could have only a virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes – or eventually, feel virtual cold.”

We now know that their predictions were wrong. Besides snow, there has also been a consistent dip in the mercury during winter in many parts of the world.

Since 2017, the world has experienced many record-breaking extreme cold weather events.

In 2018, New York City experienced the coldest thanksgiving in 100 years. This year’s winter snowfall was the biggest in New York’s recent history.

Even in a tropical country like India, extreme winter was experienced. New Delhi, the capital of India, recorded the coldest December day in 119 years this winter.

Mainstream media did not delve into the climate aspect of the extreme cold weather event and what implication it has on our understanding of global warming.

Not one of them raised concerns about the flawed predictions from climate doomsayers that had no room for severe winters that have occurred across the world.

Instead of acknowledging the gross inefficiency of their predictions and putting an end to their hopeless reliance on the faulty computer climate models, the alarmists instead resort to conveniently ignoring the matter. This has been a repetitive pattern.

Doesn’t Go Your Way? No Problem, Move The Goal Posts

In order to protect their doomsday hypothesis, the alarmists are now beginning to say that even extreme snowfall events are signs of man-made global warming.

If you haven’t realized it yet, this is how the logic of climate alarmism or the doomsday cult works.

When their hypothesis about future climate events do not come to pass the alarmists make changes to their predictions, and find ways to accommodate the current weather events into their hypothesis.

They remain firmly committed to their belief that every major weather event is a consequence of man-made global warming, regardless of whether it is a cold or hot event.

They have rewritten their own predictions in order to accommodate unfavorable outcomes and suit the larger doomsday narrative.

Let Us Not Be Fooled By The Crafty Coverage

So, it is imperative that the public must exert utmost caution when they read, listen or watch the media’s one-sided coverage of climate events and their blatant promotion of climate apocalypse.

The mainstream media strives hard to make people blindly trust the doomsday narrative.

They do it through excess coverage of hot weather events—often accompanied by blame games on human fossil emissions—and stopping people from being aware of the extreme cold weather events, thus creating a false sense of alarmism in their minds.

The concern here is not whether climate change is real or not, but of false predictions about a future apocalypse—through crafty and steady brainwashing of the masses—that the doomsayers want the public to believe in.

Climate has been changing wildly in the past 10,000 years, and there is no reason to conclude that it will not change in the future. But that does not mean that there is a doomsday waiting for us in the near future.

There is no indication, from the best available scientific studies, that the climate in the next 80 years will be inhospitable or dangerous to society.

It is time to wake up, and more independent media houses and citizens must fact-check, report, and hold the mainstream media and their climate narratives accountable.

I like the statistical analysis which Darko Butina carried out for north America which shows that in the last 125 years there have been more extreme cold periods than extreme hot, and he concludes that there has been cooling over this period.

He also made this observation in one of his papers “To summarise this report, every single scientific fact that is based on observations and instrument based data tells us that the Earth’s temperature system should be seen as a huge network of local temperature patterns and that to assume and define the Earth’s atmosphere system as a homogeneous simply cannot be made.” I would condense this to say an average temperature is meaningless. It has no place in physics because temperatures cannot be added to make a total that means anything and so an average does not mean anything.

The nonsense of human caused climate change is preventing the required research being carried out to determine what does control the climate if that is even possible. But I am certain that we should fear the cold and not the warmth.
