First Podcast About Antarctica, & More About Recent Flooding
There has been major flooding along the east coast of Australia, again
Like many of the rivers in this part of Australia, the Manning falls precipitously from the Great Dividing Range and can carry tremendous volumes of waters.
Yet it remains essentially unregulated with no major storages to capture the flood waters.
The Manning has flooded many times, the flooding in July 1866 was probably as severe, if not more so, than the flooding in the last two weeks.
But this 1866 flooding has not been mentioned in any of the mainstream media reporting. None. There has been some mention of 1929, which according to my historical sources was ‘two foot’ below the 1866 flood.
You can click across and read more about this at my Substack, including the 342-year record of flooding for the Burdekin River, that also features as (the header) chart.
Some of what I have published a Substack is now behind a paywall. I have just over 100 paid subscribers, and I am very grateful to everyone who has helped me get to this milestone. Onward to 1,000 paid subscribers which would make my writing financially sustainable.
On the weekend, I hosted a fifth zoom webinar in my new series Towards a Theory of Climate Resilience. Substack helped me turn this into a podcast; I now have a first episode at Spotify!
Click across to Substack and listen for free to Alex Pope and I discuss how Antarctica is a huge store of Coolth, that regulates Earth’s climate naturally.
There is already some discussion in the thread following, and I mention that I have been rereading J.E. Lovelock about Gaia.

This Friday, I will reveal the third plank in my new Theory of Climate Resilience. If you are a paid subscribed at my Substack by then, you will receive this information directly into your inbox.
