Coronavirus – A perspective from Britain Part 15

This article covers the first half of November. The above chart is  from the BBC virus webpage for the number of new cases in the UK up to November 15^th.

On the 2^nd November, the same day Britain recorded its lowest number of daily coronavirus cases in a fortnight, Neil ‘Master of Disaster’ Ferguson predicted the UK would need a third lockdown in January if we are ‘allowed’ to celebrate Christmas normally. With his abysmal record of gross over-prediction, you have to wonder why anyone still listens to him. This is his record of predictions:

If Boris was persuaded to plunge the country into a third lockdown, you can almost guarantee there will be calls for a fourth and a fifth, each accompanied by ever more draconian restrictions, until the UK has descended into a totalitarian dictatorship.

Some say that has been the plan all along. Not the wish of the British government though, the wishes of the outside agencies that are pulling the strings.

On the 5^th, Chancellor Rishi Sunak dramatically extended the furlough scheme until March, effectively admitting renewed lockdowns had left his virus strategy in tatters.

The move has raised fears that the country is in for a longer lockdown than ministers have been admitting, as the current lockdown in England is due to lift on December 2^nd.

It would not surprise me at all to find the current lockdown extended past December 2^nd, for the greater good.

The same day, Worldometer showed the UK had jumped from 9^th to 8^th place by cases, overtaking Colombia.

The image below I saved from the BBC website several weeks ago, but forgot to include it in these articles. It shows the chances of dying from the virus are little more than normal mortality rates. It was only shown on the BBC virus webpage for a few days before being removed.

On the 6^th, the Metro newspaper reported you can now be fined £200 for leaving your house without a ‘reasonable excuse’.

Reasonable excuses apparently include going out include work when you can’t do so at home, exercising, seeking medical attention and buying food.

The article also says the fine will double for every breach of the rules up to a maximum of £6,400 and could result in a criminal conviction if the offender refuses to pay.

Protests of any kind are apparently now also banned.

The same day, the Evening Standard revealed the government’s worst-case scenario claim of up to 1500 deaths a day by December was wrong. The figure has been reduced to just under 1000. Still in my view way too high.

Also on the 6^th, a notice appeared in the Iris Oifigiúil; the official gazette of the Government of Ireland, which extended the mandatory use of masks on public transport to the 9^th June 2021.

The R number

On the 9^th October, the R number was showing as 1.2-1.5. By the 18^th, it had changed to 1.3-1.5. Surprisingly, on the 23^rd, it had reduced slightly to 1.2-1.4. By the 31^st, it had dropped to 1.1-1.3, and by the 13^th November had dropped again to 1-1.2 as shown below.

On the 6^th, the Sage advisory group cautioned against focus on the UK-wide figure, saying “Given the increasingly localised approach to managing the epidemic particularly between nations, UK level estimates are less meaningful than previously“.

The same day, the Irish Times reported that 93% of those that had died from the virus in Ireland had at least one existing medical condition. It can be seen here: www.irishtimes.com

The following day, the Mail Online reported:

The Department of Health and the Cabinet Office have created a team of civil servants to publicise the vaccine.

This team will acknowledge that the vaccine is not flawless, in order to prevent people becoming disillusioned with the jab if it does not immediately bring an end to the pandemic.

The team will apparently advise the public the vaccine will be ‘as safe as it can be’ but will admit there is no 100 per cent guarantee in an honesty-first fight against anti-vaxxers.

The article admits:

It normally takes years for vaccines to be green-lit by the UK’s drugs watchdog, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), and a similar body in the EU. 

Regulators must pore over data to make sure jabs will be safe and effective to dish out to millions of people. (Emphasis added in all paragraphs)

Also on the 7^th, the Mail Online reported that former Tory politician David Mellor had delivered a blistering attack on the government’s handling of the ‘pandemic’. It is quite a long article so I won’t reproduce any of it here, but you can see it here: www.dailymail.co.uk

The same day, an Off-Guardian article revealed the British Army will be involved in testing school children at the Broadgreen International School in Liverpool. The article contains a copy of a letter sent to parents that the school considers this a ‘privilege’, testing will start on the 9^th, and asks parents who do not wish their children tested to contact the school asap.

The letter makes it clear children will be tested without parental consent, and given an individual ‘barcode’. If positive results are returned, the letter says, the child will be ‘secured’…whatever that means.

The letter stresses they expect 100% cooperation.

It also says it expects ‘immediate major disruption’ of how the school operates, but does not say what they are expecting to happen.

On the 9^th, Wales came out of lockdown, meaning its shops and pubs can reopen after 17 days closed. Children can return to school after an extended break, and people are allowed to travel inside the country again.

The same day, First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford said we should not hand-deliver Christmas cards, as we could be spreading the ‘deadly pandemic’!

Also on the 9^th, it was widely reported that a Pfizer vaccine had been found to be ‘90% effective’, and was expected to be passed for mass public use. Vaccine development usually takes five to ten years, but all the Covid vaccines have been rushed through in a matter of months, so no data is available on any side effects that might appear weeks or months after use.

It should be remembered that all the Covid vaccines are experimental, and both the SARS & Swine Flu vaccines were also rushed into production, and both caused significant side effects.

Many governments are saying they will not make vaccinations mandatory, but qualify that by saying it will be a sanctions-based policy whereby if you refuse a vaccination, you will in return be refused entry to many shops, public transport, museums, art galleries, exhibitions, libraries, sports or music venues, airshows, comic cons, heritage railways.

Employers will probably be told to only employ those who have been vaccinated, and it has already been suggested those receiving state benefits could have them stopped if they do not accept a vaccine. So while vaccines will probably not be mandatory, it will be made almost impossible to exist without having one.

On the 12^th, Worldometer showed the UK had jumped another place by cases, to 7^th place, overtaking Argentina.

The same day, the BBC virus webpage reported a further 33,470 confirmed cases. It commented: This was the highest figure in since the start of the pandemic, though it’s thought there were more infections during the first peak in the Spring, but testing capacity at the time was too limited to detect the true number of daily cases.

It also says: The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which is tracking Covid-19 in the community, also suggest the increase in new infections may be stabilising.

Also on the 12^th, the UK edition of the Huffington Post revealed Tory MP Tom Tugendhat had said: “… I can certainly see the day when businesses say: ‘Look, you’ve got to return to the office and if you’re not vaccinated you’re not coming in’ and     “…I can see a situation where yes, of course you’re free not to have the vaccine, but there are consequences.” (Emphasis added)

This was predicted by many, including me, weeks ago, but of course it’s just a conspiracy theory.

On the 15^th, LBC News reported Labour MP’s are urging the government to bring forward introduction of legislation that would outlaw what it calls ‘disinformation’ about the virus.

The article states in part:

Shadow culture secretary Jo Stevens and shadow health secretary Jonathan Ashworth have written to Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden insisting that the “spread of disinformation online presents a real and present danger” to vaccination efforts.

Ms Stevens said: “The government has a pitiful track record on taking action against online platforms that are facilitating the spread of disinformation.”

Labour insisted that the government’s work with social media platforms, aimed at anti-vaccination content, does not go far enough.

“What we need is action now and – since these companies have been unable to take action themselves – we are calling on the government to introduce emergency legislation which would include financial and criminal penalties for continued failure to act.” (Emphasis added)

In other words, Labour are advocating censorship of anything that does not adhere to the entrenched polemic.

According to Worldometer, the number of people in hospital in critical condition in the UK had risen to 978 by the 31^st October, and risen again to 1355 by November 15^th, but still below the 1559 I recorded at the height of the first wave.

The BBC virus webpage has changed the wording for deaths, to now read ‘coronavirus-related deaths’, which includes people suspected of having died from the virus, even if they were not tested.

On November 4^th, the BBC virus webpage said:

The average number of deaths registered each week normally rises gradually at this time of year but the growth this week is faster than normal. Overall, the figures are still well below the peak of 9,495 deaths recorded in a week, reached on 17 April. (Emphasis added)

The five-year average

The graphic below shows the five-year average of UK deaths, and we see as with every other year, once colder weather gets here, deaths start to rise. However, we can clearly see in this chart they are slightly above ‘normal’ for this time of year.

According to Worldometer, the number of active cases worldwide as of November 15^th stands at 15.2 million. Of those, 15.1 million are mild, with just 98,000 classed as serious / critical. In the UK, we have 1.3 million total cases, with 1355 classed as serious / critical.

On September 4^th, the Full Fact website commented on social media claims about UK vaccine manufacturers being exempt from prosecution should their products cause physical harm or death. When such posts have been made on Facebook, they have invariably attracted the ‘false information’ flag, so Full Fact’s comment are all the more important because they support the claims.

The article says in part:

This is generally correct. EU law, which has been adopted by the UK, protects manufacturers from liability if the government decides to supply their vaccines without licensing. However, they are not exempt from all liabilities.

A Facebook post has drawn attention to an extract from a Sun article, which states that manufacturers of a potential fast-tracked Covid-19 vaccine would be protected from civil liability if the vaccine is later found to cause harm.

This is mostly true. 

However, this doesn’t apply when the sale or supply of a medicinal product is temporarily authorised in response to “pathogenic agents” such as the virus which causes Covid-19. 

Manufacturers “cannot generally be sued in the civil courts for the consequences resulting from the use of an unlicensed product, or a new use of a licensed product, that a national licensing authority is recommending in order to deal with certain specific health threats”, according to a government consultation document.

However, the government consultation document also states that the law “does not provide complete immunity from civil liability.”

If the product is not found to meet safety standards or is defective, then there is a liability. 

So, while the Full Fact article does contradict itself, it concludes by saying:

This article is part of our work fact checking potentially false pictures, videos and stories on Facebook. For the purposes of that scheme, we’ve rated this claim as true because there is a legal framework to potentially protect manufacturers of an unlicensed Covid-19 vaccine if the government chose to roll it out. (Emphasis added in all paragraphs)

However, vaccine manufacturers are protected against prosecution in the US. An article on May 5^th 2018 on the policymed.com website said ‘The United States Supreme Court reached a decision recently, concluding that federal law protects vaccine makers from product-liability lawsuits that are filed in state courts and seek damages for injuries or death attributed to a vaccine.’

It seems insurance companies are using the lockdowns as yet another reason to refuse to pay out if you have a motoring accident. Several newspapers have reported insurance companies saying if you have an accident during lockdown, and you cannot prove your journey was ‘essential’, it will probably invalidate your insurance.

It should be remembered the government took the virus OFF the list of High Consequence Infectious Diseases on March 19^th, before the first lockdown started. It has not been put back on that list.

The economy is projected to shrink by 2% between October and December, but the Bank of England said the UK was likely to see an 11% fall in GDP, which would be the deepest recession for 300 years.

An official survey has found a third of hotel and food services business had ‘no or low confidence’ they can survive into next year, even before the second lockdown began.

As it stands at the moment, the UK does not have a bright future. On a closing note, keep in mind these telling final statistics below:
