AI Has ‘Absolutely Horrifying’ Impact on Environment, says New Study

Environmentalists are in a panic over the latest study proving ‘devastating’ impacts of data centers on natural resources. As reported by futurism.com:

“The impact artificial intelligence has had on the environment has been nothing short of devastating.

The data centers powering the boom have been spewing out a staggering amount of pollution by relying on fossil fuel-powered generators. And given the industry’s unrelenting appetite for more infrastructure supporting ever-more-resource-intensive AI models, the trend is only going to get worse from here.

It’s reached the point that AI is giving the fossil fuel industry a substantial leg up, as a new paper published in the journal NPJ Climate Action details. The authors found that the industry has been using AI to increase productivity, drill for more oil, and reap even greater profits, vastly outweighing any benefits from AI-enabled advances in the renewable energy sector.”

Grassroots greens mostly support one world (‘no borders’) socialist government so you would expect them to be supportive of the growth in artificial intelligence. You would think it is axiomatic that data centers and artificial intelligence are crucial for globalism as they enable efficient data processing and connectivity, allowing government and businesses to operate and innovate on a global scale.

Such a tight-knit infrastructure supports the concentration of resources and technology in a few regions, which can lead to increased influence and control over global markets.

But not so, as the cognitive dissonance mounts between the competing desire to impose one world socialism (via A.I. mass control) and getting off ‘fossil fuels’ is a torment too far. Back in January 2026 more than 230 environmental organizations delivered a letter to Congress requesting a “national data center moratorium.”

As futurism.com laments:

“The data centers powering the boom have been spewing out a staggering amount of pollution by relying on fossil fuel-powered generators. And given the industry’s unrelenting appetite for more infrastructure supporting ever-more-resource-intensive AI models, the trend is only going to get worse from here.

The authors found that the industry has been using AI to increase productivity, drill for more oil, and reap even greater profits, vastly outweighing any benefits from AI-enabled advances in the renewable energy sector.”

Put simply, AI’s impact on the environment greatly exceeds emissions linked to data centers.

The new paper published in Nature calculates that the boom in AI could lead to anywhere from three to 13 times more fossil fuel emissions compared to the already massive amount of pollution being released by data centers.

Unexpected bedfellows with the environmentalists are libertarian-leaning, conspiracy-minded right-wingers who see A.I. data centers as the embodiment of total control of society and the greatest threat to individual sovereignty.

Protests against data center construction are ramping up. US Data Center Rejections Hit 275 So Far This Year

Broad coalitions of people from Indianapolis to Independence, Missouri, have organized to stop data center projects, as reported in Rage Against The Data Center

As AI Data Centers ‘Spreading Like an Aggressive Cancer’and investment accelerates, calls are growing for stricter regulation, greater transparency, and meaningful community input before projects move forward.

With data center energy appetites growing and electricity power grids stretched to the max are we looking at the prospect of the pot boiling over and catastrophic blackouts?

If so, when the grid fails so does the data center. It appears that those who want to control us are working at cross purposes; they seek mass surveillance and the elimination of CO2 emissions. But these goals are incompatible if the methodology relies on Artificial Intelligence.
