What Percentage Of Our CO2 Is Produced By Human Activity?
What portion of the rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) is caused by human CO2 emissions, and what portion is driven by natural factors?
Please consider the charts below. The charts plot the rise in atmospheric CO2 concentration, using data from NOAA Mauna Loa, and annual global CO2 emissions, using data from the Global Carbon Project.
The common position of most scientists, including scientists skeptical that the rise in atmospheric CO2 is a problem, is that the rise in atmospheric CO2 is mostly driven by human industrial emissions.
The chart from 1959─2023 shows this rough correlation, as you know.
A look at the chart below from 2000─2023, using the same data, shows that the rising atmospheric CO2 concentration appears to be relatively insensitive to annual changes in global industrial CO2 emissions.
We of course see the annual variation in atmospheric CO2 from seasonal vegetation changes, which shows that atmospheric CO2 is short-term sensitive to natural factors.
But the atmospheric CO2 doesn’t show observable changes in response to changes in human emissions, such as the global emissions drop in the year 2020 due to the COVID-19 economic slowdown.
Note also that the rate of rise in world industrial CO2 emissions appears to have declined from the period from 2000 to 2014 to a lesser rate of rise from 2014 to 2022.
But the rate of rise in global atmospheric CO2 concentration appears to be steady, and even rising slightly faster.
From these data, it appears that the rise in atmospheric CO2 concentration is dominated by natural factors, and that human emissions must be only a small factor.

Editor’s note: the image below is from the IPCC AR4 report, 2007. The 29 billion tons from human activity is now approximately 39 billion tons. Not shown is the 150 billion tons released annually from animals and bacteria. These add up to approximately 959 billion tons released annually. Therefore, 96 percent of atmospheric CO2 comes from natural processes, so even if we ‘decarbonised’ the entire world, we would only reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere by four percent, and would have destroyed our civilisation in the process.

The answer to the question in a warming world is close to zero. I realise that this answer is a little different to the assumption made by IPCC that all the area under the Keeling Curve (Moana Loa) is the accumulation of anthropogenic emissions. The reason rests with Henry’s Law. Basically to keep the balance (factors for each local area of water, sea or other: partial pressure of atmosheric CO2, temperature at the interface and existing dissolved CO2) any additional contribution to the partial pressure simply depresses what would have been emitted had that increase not taken place. Like all things this is the simplified version and it is good enough to answer the question asked.

CO2 IS ESSENTIAL FOR PLANTS, MICRO ORGANISMS AND LIFE ON EARTH.
THE ONLY PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION WHY THE CRIMINALS BEHIND ALL MAJOR CRISES SINCE DECADES ARE ATTACKING CO2 IS EXACTLY BECAUSE IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR PLANTS.
BY REDUCING IT FURTHER (AND WE ARE ALREADY CO2 EXHAUSTED) , THEY WILL CREATE MASSIVE SHORTAGES AND THEREFORE FAMINES.
IT’S BEEN DONE BEFORE BY MASS MURDERERS LIKE MAO AND STALIN.
THIS IS THE SAME TODAY, HELPED BY MILLIONS OF BRAINDEAD USEFUL IDIOTS WITH DIPLOMAS WHO ARE NOT EVEN ABLE TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES.

People are so concerned about how much CO2 man is adding to the atmosphere when it is completely irrelevant. Every time it rains the CO2 is washed from the atmosphere and the level returns to base line established by the temperature of the ocean.
CO2 is constantly being removed from atmosphere by reaction with metals. How many tons is bound up in coral reefs, mollusk shells, limestone, marble, and organic matter? The amount in the atmosphere is a tiny fraction of the total CO2 and is incidental. People go berserk at the CO2 coming from a car but completely ignore the massive amount contained in the concrete highway.
People are stupid and politicians want to keep them that way so they can controls and steal from them. They will spend billions on concrete and marble building for education in order to keep them stupid so they can continue their scam and deluding people into believing it is for their benefit.
