Why COP30 Is Just Another Climate Hypocrites Jamboree

Things have escalated dramatically here in Belém. On one side of the barricades, UN organizers are insisting that this year’s climate conference is all about peace, sustainability, and global cooperation.
On the other side? Helicopters circling overhead, riot police in full gear, military checkpoints, and panicked staff scrambling to contain the fallout from an activist breach that completely shattered their carefully staged climate pageant.
Earlier this week, Indigenous activists stormed the perimeter of the summit grounds. Within minutes, the UN’s climate utopia transformed into a militarized zone. The very people who preach open borders and “climate migration” fenced themselves in behind walls, concrete blocks, and armed officers.
Here’s my full report on the lockdown, the chaos, and the militarization of this UN climate summit.
Independent journalists like us are being kept as far away as possible — drones shot down, routes blocked, and key areas sealed tight. Yet somehow, the same activists the UN usually celebrates managed to cut through their security theatre and spark absolute panic. It revealed something they never admit: This summit is only “open” if you’re on their approved list.
Once inside the areas we are permitted to access, the contradictions only deepen.
The “Green Zone,” which the UN sells as an educational and family-friendly climate showcase, is really a sprawling commercial expo where NGOs, multinational corporations, and lobbyists vie for influence through glossy displays and guilt-driven sales pitches.
Here’s what I saw:
- Booths selling “carbon offsets” for about $22 a hit — a literal pay-to-feel-better scheme.
- A forest of fake trees stuck into fake soil inside one of the world’s most biodiverse regions.
- Lobbyists and activists cooling off in power-hungry air-conditioned lounges while preaching energy austerity to everyone else.
- A pro-Iran exhibit pushing messaging that veers disturbingly close to historical blood libels, blaming Jews for environmental harm — all under the banner of “climate justice.”
There was even a “cultural marketplace” meant to showcase local Indigenous crafts — but almost no delegates were buying anything. It felt like a staged backdrop for photo ops rather than genuine support.
Inside the UN Climate Conference, virtue is for sale. Everything has a price tag, and the only real renewable resource is hypocrisy.
Whenever we film something the UN would rather not talk about, security descends almost instantly. They don’t want the world to see fences, police convoys, propaganda booths, or the massive commercial machine behind their moralizing.
But that’s precisely what we’re documenting — not the staged version, but the real one unfolding just outside their talking points.
And we can only do that because we aren’t funded by governments, NGOs, or corporate lobbyists.
We pay our own way. We answer only to you, our viewers. And frankly, getting to the Amazon, working from here, and staying long enough to cut through the spin is enormously expensive.
If you want us to keep exposing what the UN tries to hide, please follow our reports and, if you’re able, help cover the cost of this mission at RebelUN.com.
We’ll keep showing you the truth — no matter how many barricades they put up.
Yours truly,
Sheila Gunn Reid
P.S. The activists, NGOs, lobbyists, and UN staff here all have one thing in common: they’re using someone else’s money. Taxpayers, donors, foundations, corporations — anyone but themselves. We’re the opposite. We’re here because our viewers sent us, and we stay only as long as our audience supports independent reporting. If you think this on-the-ground coverage matters, please chip in at RebelUN.com.
