Despite rabies never coming close to most people’s lives, it has long haunted the human imagination due to the associations with crazed biting, insomnia, male predominance, and hypersexuality.
Rabies is a terrifying condition and has haunted the human imagination for centuries. Remember the movie Cujo? That freaked out more people than the disease has ever infected. In history.
It’s been suggested that the condition may have inspired the mythology of vampires in the 1700s. Unfortunately, mythology spills into the alleged science behind rabies and many commonly held fears are unwarranted.
I’ll look into the science and explain why most of us don’t need to worry about it.
