UK Council’s electric vehicle chargers hacked to show porn site
Electric vehicle charging points in a council’s car parks have been hacked to show a porn website on their screens.
Isle of Wight Council has three charge points in Quay Road, Ryde, Cross Street, Cowes and Moa Place, Freshwater.
In a statement the council apologised “to anyone that may have found the inappropriate web content”.
The authority said staff were due to visit the charge points “to ensure the third party web address is covered up”.
It is understood the chargers were meant to display the network’s own website, but the web address had been redirected and was instead taking visitors to a pornographic site.
The council said:
“We are saddened to learn that a third-party web address displayed on our electric vehicle (EV) signage appears to have been hacked.”
It added the charge points were originally part of the Chargepoint Genie network but have recently been transferred to the GeniePoint network.
The authority said it was also aware some charge points in council car parks were unreliable.
It said these were due to be replaced with “new charge points over the next few months”.

Maybe one day, people will realise how foolhardy it is to include computers in everything. Not least because applications like this appear to have little thought toward security.

Ain’t no computer system that can’t be hacked. Computers make efficient slaves in many cases, but this is getting to the point where we will be controlled by A/I which is man made computer gibberish in no way comparable to the human thought process.

Hello Howdy:
The automotive industry wants to get rid of all auto repair outside of dealerships. Getting rid of the carburetor and going to fuel injection was a big improvement. Electronic ignition may have helped some also. Other than that, the manufactures have mostly just reduced weight. They don’t want cars to last past the typical note which now is about like a mortgage. Ultimately the plan is to create enough shortages and raise prices with the “Green Energy” scam to eliminate all personal vehicles and force everyone into a high rise urban shit hole. In a socialist “Hunger game” system there will be shortages of everything. Except for the insiders.

Hi Mark,
Cars don’t appear lighter afaics, and luxury items such as power steering, climate control, and electric everything were never available in the past. low end vehicles in the past came with no carpet even, or radio etc. Compare an early VW Golf to a current version, or a 70s ford escort to a Focus.

I used to own a 61 Oldsmobile, then a 64. These cars had twice the weight of cars today. They both also had air-conditioning, power steering and a radio. Fancy interior with nice headliners Lots of chrome and big 8 cyl. motors. Not light plastic crap full of expensive computer junk to go out like today. As far as the Focus, that was the reason hundreds of thousands of people will never buy another ford.

Hi howdy,
I have a 1952 MGTD. Wood frame, no windows (curtains), no heater, no gas gauge, no radio, suicide doors, no roof (tonneau), no trunk (boot) but easy to get under the bonnet, with room to work on it and fix it. (Crank for starting the starter fails.)

Hi Howdy,
Like many old British cars, not in the rain.
I haven’t driven it in years since the arthritis in my knees made it impossible for me to get in it. But with the old style engines just replace the rubber in the fuel pump (Lousy alcohol gasoline) and she’ll turn ver.

Hi Herb,
just been looking at some videos. The door latch is borrowed from an internal house door, thus quite unsafe. Much like the BLMC mini. In a collision, doors will likely fly open.
Pull to start switch.
An able-bodied guy had trouble getting in one so I can sympathize with you. It’s really quite small driving space.
Wiper motor stuck on the windscreen, and no control stalks. 🙂
Proper driving experience comes as standard. I miss my old car sometimes.

Hi Howdy,
Yeah.Unsafe (no turn signals or seat belts), lousy performance (top speed 55), uncomfortable, but the most fun you will have driving.
