UK Conservative Leader Vows to Scrap Climate Change Act

Kemi Badenoch will promise today to scrap the “failed” Climate Change Act – which enshrines the Net Zero target in law – if the Conservatives regain power. The Telegraph has the story.
The Tory leader is vowing to repeal the “failed” Climate Change Act 2008, which sets legally binding targets to make the UK a net-zero carbon emitter by 2050.
It would pave the way for the Tories to scrap electric car targets, as well as plans to phase out gas boilers and replace them with heat pumps.
Mrs Badenoch said: “We want to leave a cleaner environment for our children, but not by bankrupting the country.
“Climate change is real. But Labour’s laws tied us in red tape, loaded us with costs, and did nothing to cut global emissions. Previous Conservative governments tried to make Labour’s climate laws work – they don’t.
“Under my leadership, we will scrap those failed targets. Our priority now is growth, cheaper energy and protecting the natural landscapes we all love.”
The proposals, which would be the biggest shake-up of Britain’s climate laws for a generation, come amid growing pressure within Labour to water down Net Zero plans.
Ed Miliband, the Energy Secretary, spoke on the final day of Labour’s conference, claiming the party’s opponents were using Net Zero to “stir up division”.
There is speculation that Rachel Reeves will seek to curtail Mr Miliband’s Net Zero plans in an attempt to boost lacklustre growth.
The Chancellor pledged this week to support “homegrown energy”, including oil and gas extracted from the North Sea.
Mrs Badenoch’s announcement is the first in a policy blitz as she uses the Conservative Party conference starting this weekend to outline her vision for the country.
She will gather her shadow cabinet on Friday to approve proposals to take the UK out of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) to tackle the small boats crisis.

Anything to try and stay important. The tories are going back on previous claims because they have no choice but comply. They are done, and they are still in denial about the wrongs they carried out over the years. Labour too..
Reform will scrub the floor with the lot of them. Honesty and integrity mean everything these days.

“Climate change is real” That says it all. The final consequences to freedom and privacy will be the same, but the path will be different.
