Tim Noakes on a low carb lifestyle

Tim Noakes is one of the highest ranked sports scientists in the world.

I’ve known him for a number of years and his insight has been inspirational to me. In fact, of all my podcast guests, Tim has made close to the most impact on me.

Eating healthy is superior to a pill or a vaccine.

Diet is foundational to mental clarity and physical wellbeing

Prof Noakes was born in Harare, Zimbabwe in 1949. As a youngster, he had a keen interest in sport and attended Diocesan College in Cape Town.

Following this, he studied at the University of Cape Town (UCT) and obtained an MBChB degree in 1974, an MD in 1981 and a DSc (Med) in Exercise Science in 2002.

Prof Noakes has published more than 750 scientific books and articles.

He has been cited more than 21 000 times in scientific literature, has an H-index of 77 and has been rated an A1 scientist by the National Research Foundation of South Africa for a second 5-year term.

He has won numerous awards over the years and made himself available on many editorial boards.

    Atrocious audio mixing on this. But worth a watch if you can tolerate it. If people would just try low carb for a few months they’d know the truth of it. You feel so “clean” it’s crazy, solved a lot of issues I’ve had my entire life. Even stopped taking allergy meds for seasonal hay fever.

    I eat low carb most of the time. I also fast, intermittent fast and occasionally go full Keto and or cycle-ketogenic. I love the bread, pasta and grains though! I’m healthy with no issues in my mid 50s.
    I wonder if the type 2 diabetes that has swept most “Westernized” countries is related to the use of High Fructose Corn Syrup? I believe it came out sometime in the 1990s. Seems about the same time that obesity and type 2 diabetes started to increase in the USA.
    Sugar has always been available as well as high glycemic processed foods like white breads and pastas. Yet, 30 years ago and beyond I don’t remember seeing so many overweight folks and those with Metabolic disorders like Type 2 diabetes. Is it the High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)?
    I used to be able to drink maybe a half a 12 OZ can of Shasta soda back in the 1970s and 1980s when I was a kid. (Remember that brand?) It was all cane sugar in the sodas back then. Now I see folks put down 24 OZ bottles of soda, no problemo. All soda in the USA is sweetened with HFCS now. You have to look hard for Jones, Boylan or other higher end brands to even find any sweetened with cane sugar. It’s also in ketchup, jelly, syrup, BBQ sauce, salad dressings, cheap breads, cheap processed foods and lots of other foods. Is there a connection with poverty and obesity due to this? Sure seems to be lots of overweight poor folks.
    Could it be that HFCS is a major factor in obesity and Type 2 diabetes?
    I have read many articles that state that HFCS is not a natural sweetener that can be found in nature. It has an artificially high level of Fructose and that UN-natural ratio of fructose causes havoc on the human body.
    Once ingested, it does not complete the normal feed back loop of blood sugar satiation levels that sucrose does. Which explains how folks today can drink a big 24 OZ bottle and want still more. All that HFCS has to go somewhere, and it ends up being stored in the liver as FAT.
    Fatty liver used to be primarily associated with alcohol consumption. Now it is also associated with excessive sugar consumption too, and my guess is that it is the HFCS that is the real culprit. It’s referred to as non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver or fatty liver. It is associated with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
    What do you think? It sure is controversial. Just like anything else that the system endorses (read toxic covid poison jabs) we are assured that it is safe to consume. They say that about Nutri-sweet too, and that stuff is a known neuro-toxin. Is HFCS just another part of the Depopulation agenda?
    I steer well clear. I read labels. I strive to be low carb as much as I can. Being low carb pretty much removes HFCS from your diet by default.
    I believe that HFCS is simply poison.
    Try going low carb. If you can get “Keto-adapted” the carb cravings and assorted ill effects go away. It takes a while, but it is literally a massive improvement in health and body composition. I believe that you may just see some huge health improvements yourself.

    Fructose like alcohol is processed by the liver which tuns it into glucose. Table sugar is half fructose. The human body is only designed to circulate ap. 4 grams of glucose at any time. The rest has to be stored in the muscle (ap. 90%), glycogen (long term-36 hrs) in the liver or the fat cells. Another problem that may be an even bigger issue is the use of seed (vegetable) oils. These poly unsaturated oils are an inflammatory disaster and include soy bean oil, safflower, canola (rape seed) peanut oil, sunflower oil. Olive oil is ok but some of it is adulterated with vegetable oils. I cannot stand the taste. Use either pure non hydrogenated lard, tallow, or coconut oil to cook with.

        Food is a primary weapon used against the population. The U.S. has gone from a nation with almost no heart disease, cancer, diabetes, kidney problems or AMD to now epidemic rates. This is all the result of transitioning from a high protein, high saturated fat, low carb diet to the current “whole grain” high carb diet for the poor and malnourished and the use of seed oils. This dietary disaster began with Ancil Keys “lipid hypothesis” and the war on the critically needed cholesterol that resulted in the use of the poison statin drugs. Everyone can gauge their basic health status by the following simple test. Sit down flat on the floor. Now get on your feet without using your hands or elbows. Anyone who can do this is practically guaranteed 5 more years.

    Might grains and starchy veg be addictive because they digest to glucose which is sensed by cells in the gut that make one want not only more glucose but more food in general?…
