This New Electric Motor May Very Well Change The EV industry

There’s a relatively new electric motor that will soon rock the auto industry.

It’s not a radio motor that most electric vehicles (EVs) have today but instead the higher-end axial flux motor that Mercedes and Ferrari will soon be sporting across multiple models.

It’s smaller, lighter, and packs a whole lot more punch than the electric motors we typically see in common EVs right now. That’s especially helpful when the battery weighs hundreds of pounds.

Although this geometry has been used since the first electromagnetic motors were developed, its usage was rare until the widespread availability of strong permanent magnets and the development of brushless DC motors, which can better exploit its geometric advantages.

    What is even more relevant is its potential application in all electric motor needs. Regardless are still the major problems of battery weight, charging times and never to be solved sustainable technology. The manufacturer’s are pushing electric solely for subsidies to produce a more expensive product unaffordable to the masses.

    Radio motor? Just what is one of those? New design?

    I believe EVs use variable frequency 3 phase, or something similar. Here, this will reveal all:

    Axial flux is simply a ‘pancake’ motor as used over a decade ago in Video cassette recorders, old computer floppy drives and others. Wider than it is thick, hence the name, It’s nothing new. In fact, rather dated.

      Hi Howdy,
      Possible electric motors in this sense are whether Radial Flux, Axial Flux or Transverse Flux motors. I wouldn’t bother checking Wikipaedia — there are better sources of “clean information” such as this one:

    I just saw a video about taking a lithium battery apart (warning against doing this) and putting the lithium in water and watching it become ablaze. I also saw a video about how non recyclable lithium batteries are – it appears that lithium batteries will not be recycled. If I was CEO of a car company, I would have a new electric division separate from the IC conventional vehicle company….I would not destroy the IC business because it will be needed in the future.
