The Massive Asteroid Impact That Separated Australia and Antarctica
Ever since magnetic scans were conducted over Antarctica in the early 1960s, an anomaly has stuck out to scientists. From the get go it was speculated that it was caused by a major asteroid impact, and, in time, it appears like this hypothesis is correct.
There’s a good chance that the massive asteroid that slammed into Antarctica 250 million years ago created the necessary catalyst for the separation of Australia and Antarctica.
On top of that, the location of this supposed crater places it at a point that is the direct antipode to the Siberian Traps, which began its eruptions right around the time that this event is dated to have occurred. Did this impact event cause the 2 million year long volcanic eruptions witnessed at the Siberian Traps?

Must it allways be an asteroid?
The land masses moved due to pressure from below as magma rose, pushed apart, and settled. Good as any.

I tend to agree with Howdy. Rifting (e.g. mid-atlantic ridge) is commonly associated with crustal thinning, so when Australia rifted from Antarctica the crust would have thinned anyway. The Deccan and Siberian Traps are also likely associated with higher geothermal flux. It’s very unlikely that a meteorite tunneled through the Earth, as its velocity would have been so great that it would have exploded on impact. Furthermore you have no age date for the meteorite, so its location could be coincidental. But I like your lateral thinking, so please try to find the evidence that ties it in.

There is evidence of another big hit in the Indian ocean…..Madagascar has evidence of a tsunami and the west coast of Australia has same time tsunami evidence. The asteroids are not suggested to travel deep within the earth – it is the energy from impact that would affect the opposite side of the planet. There are huge deep anomalies below Africa and the Pacific ocean that are more dense than the rest of the earth….maybe related to the ancient impact that resulted in the moon?
