‘Smart Thermostats’ Stop People Adjusting Temps
22,000 Colorado households lose control of their home thermostats during a heatwave as power company prevents air conditioning use
Comrades, a heatwave hit the Colorado region Tuesday with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees.
Indoor temperatures began climbing, and when formerly free-range residents attempted to adjust their air conditioning, they discovered they were locked out from control in their own home as the power company took over.
Comrade Citizens, it is important that we support the needs of the energy collective.
All good thinking citizens put the needs of the state ahead of their selfish desires.
As the national energy emergency now begins to unfold, the officials in charge of energy resource equity remind everyone how critical it is to remain compliant with all ministerial energy objectives.
Compliance is expected from all correct thinking citizens.
As long as you remain compliant, there is no reason for concern.
Do not attempt to adjust your household allocation of energy.

Swamp coolers in dry summer climates is much cheaper and easy to maintain.

Hi Micky,
The thermostat is connected via WiFi most likely. Go into your router settings and disable the thermostat connection to the internet. If on the other hand, the connection is via the power company cables, you have no recourse but to replace it with a ‘dumb’ version.
You may not be aware, but your thermostat use is worth money to the right buyer, same as a smart meter, but nobody seems to address that when talking about negative sides, even though smart meters in reality have no positives at all over a standard meter. Smart meters can be even worse for building a profile of your habits.

Just to clarify, if the device was by wifi, then it would need your router/access point passphrase, or use of the ‘easy connect button’ at time of installation. If that was never asked for/used, then not by wifi.
Also, if it’s power company property and the thermostat is part of the cooling system unit, there are usually ways to over-ride the blocked appliance by judicious use of a screwdriver….
No I won’t go into it.

I don’t think it warrants a VPN Boris, I wouldn’t go into any detail because it’s PSI and not my intention to cause any raised eyebrows.
If people want a private search engine, there’s Duckduckgo, but the open source ‘SearX’, which can also be self hosted on your own machine is even better. Linux is preferred, and you can install it on windows if you must, but since Win NT version 10 onwards is is telemetry hell on steroids anyway, and privacy is what you want, I wouldn’t waste my time.
