RIP Niklas Mörner: 1938-2020
It was a privilege and honor to have as my friend and colleague, Niklas Mörner. It is with regret to share the sad news of his passing.
Over the past 10 years Niklas was prominent in the movement to expose the man-made global warming fraud, but especially the lies told by corrupt academics and ‘science’ institutions about ‘dangerous’ sea level rise.
He was known as a principled scientist and inspiration to many who were fortunate to work with Niklas. In particular, I fondly recall he was always supportive of our mission to set up and grow Principia Scientific International and everyone here who worked with him only had praise for his dedication, thoroughness and professionalism.
As Wikipedia’s entry reports:
“Nils-Axel Mörner was the former head of the paleogeophysics and geodynamics department at Stockholm University. He retired in 2005. He was president of the International Union for Quaternary Research Commission on Neotectonics. He headed the INTAS Project on geomagnetism and climate. He was a critic of the IPCC and the notion that the global sea level is rising.”
No one did more to expose the shocking fraud about claims of sea level rise due to man-made global warming. Of much significance was his 2007 20-page booklet The Greatest Lie Ever Told.
Our friend and PSI colleague, Professor Cliff Ollier wrote an excellent review of the booklet here.
Professor Ollier writes:
“Mörner asserts that climate changes between 1850 and 1970 were predominantly a function of solar variability…..This little booklet shows how a bandwagon works, and offers a few things that might help to put the brakes on this particular, rising sea level bandwagon. It is also a sad commentary on how science is manipulated these days.”

I am so sad to hear about the passing away of this great scientist, sea level expert Nils-Axel Mörner. What is even sadder is that Nils is one of many honest scientists who dared challenge the IPCC climate scare and who are now no longer with us to fight the fight.

Years ago I attended a presentation by the lead author of the chapter of sea level rising. The meeting was held at the Institute of Physics in London. During the presentation I formed the view that the speaker did not have an in depth knowledge of the subject matter. To test this out I was first up in the Q&A session with three salient questions. In each case the speaker gave answers which displayed his superficiality/ignorance. When I sat down someone behind me tapped on my shoulder and said you did not seem very satisfied by the answers you received. Turning round I recognised a very well know physicist and friend of mine. He asked if I had read any of Nils-Axel Mörner’s papers. I confirmed that I had read a few. My friend went on the say that in his opinion Mörner was the world expert on the subject. At that point I determined to make contact with him. I cannot remember how I got hold of Nils’s email address but I do remember the gist of what I wrote to him. I said words to the effect that I realised that he had written well over 300 papers on the subject of sea level changes but I wondered if he could send me references to the key papers that would allow me to gain a real handle on the subject. I suppose I expected say five or so. In fact Nils replied by return email with an A4 page of references. The page was full and in ten point with one reference per line! At that point I realised that I was somewhat unlikely to gain a real handle on the subject for some considerable time, if at all. Of course subsequently I met Nils and participated in a number of conference sessions and continued a dialogue until a year or so ago. It is really sad when giants like Nils, Fred Singer, Bob Carter and Zbigniew Jaworowsli pass away. Sadly there don’t appear to be people with their integrity and lust for truth to take over.

Thank you so much for sharing this personal experience. I unfortunately had never discovered the results of Niklas’s extreme scholarly efforts which every scientist should demonstrate.

So what gives? Well, since any gas molecule man introduces into the atmosphere can only cool the atmosphere, per the the Second Law of Thermodynamics, then we’re left with the massive increase in manmade objects on the ground that’s heating the atmosphere:
THERMODYNAMICS AWOL
Climate change mechanics conspires to do away with the physics of the atmosphere, where action and reaction is abandoned. When a new gas molecule is introduced into the dense troposphere, dislocation takes place, where if the new molecule is denser than the atmosphere (contains less heat energy), such as carbon dioxide, the gas molecule sinks displacing upwards the warmer nitrogen and oxygen molecules, thereby cooling the area of dislocation. Conversely, if the new gas molecule has more heat energy than the nitrogen-oxygen based atmosphere (such as methane), the new molecule rises, displacing relatively cooler nitrogen and oxygen molecules downwards, which displaces upwards relatively more heat retaining nitrogen and oxygen molecules, thereby cooling the area of dislocation. Thermodynamics in action in the atmosphere that keeps the Earth cool when increased radiation isn’t the new variable introduced.
In fact [another discovery]:
Greater than 94% of the energy contained within nitrogen and oxygen are unaccounted for by the ‘climate change’ narrative, informing us of the massive scientific fraud taking place, the purpose of the fraud to further weaken the West’s economies.
Nitrogen and oxygen constitute, by volume, 99.03% of the atmosphere’s gasses, while the trace gases account for 0.97%, or just under 1% of the atmosphere’s gasses. If we include water vapor (H2O) in the atmosphere, which accounts for, on average, 2% of the atmosphere’s gases by volume, we therefore subtract this 2% from the atmosphere’s gasses, where nitrogen and oxygen will constitute 97.0494%, and the trace gasses will constitute 0.9506%.
Nitrogen and oxygen don’t absorb much infrared radiation (IR) emitted from the ground, and assuming they absorb 100% of thermal energy from the surface, constituting approximately 5% of Earth’s energy budget, we’re left with a massive energy deficit for nitrogen and oxygen, confirming that those two molecules derive their energy from thermal ground/ocean emissions instead, but since the ‘climate change’ narrative identifies such emissions as not thermal but IR, we have proof that the energy being emitted isn’t IR but thermal because nitrogen and oxygen absorb a miniscule amount of IR.
We’re told that Nitrogen and oxygen obtain 5.1% of their heat energy from thermal energy emanating from the surface…

…and another .078% of their heat energy from outgoing infrared radiation, leaving an energy deficit of approximately 94.8%.
Since nitrogen and oxygen constitute by volume 97.0494% of the atmosphere’s gasses (when water vapor is included in the calculations making for a more precise calculation), they must therefore retain that volume amount of heat energy, but 18.4 Wm2 only constitutes 5.1% of the Earth’s Energy Budget of 358.2 Wm2. Nitrogen and oxygen’s absorption of infrared radiation only infinitesimally affects this missing heat energy.
The missing energy levels for nitrogen and oxygen direct our attention to another aspect of the scientific fraud taking place: Misidentified outgoing energy types. IR is assigned an energy magnitude of 358.2 Wm2, and thermals 18.4 Wm2. The opposite is closer to the truth, where IR is assigned 18.4 Wm2, and thermals 358.2 Wm2.

Hi Dean,
when man adds a new molecule to the atmosphere (like CO2) it is a result of him removing a molecule (O2) from the atmosphere so there is no increase.
Avogadro’s law say that a mole of any gas will have the same volume as a mole of any other gas. The volume of the atmosphere is determined by the kinetic energy of the gas molecules and the kinetic energy of the nitrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere is determined by the amount of uv light coming from the sun they absorb.

Mörner has published books and papers on the interaction among isostasy and eustasy, the oscillating regional eustatic curve of NW Europe, the changing geoid concept, the redefinition of the concept of eustasy, the dynamic-rotational redistribution of oceanic water masses, and the interchange of angular momentum between the hydrosphere and solid Earth. His publications span over thirty years. His most cited paper has been cited about 400 times in early 2017 (wiki)
An honourable man who challenged the non scientific agenda.
