Report Finds Tesla has highest fatal accident rate of all US car brands
Tesla has been slammed in a shocking report that found its cars are more likely to be involved in a fatal crash than any other brand of new vehicle on the road
An American study compared the number of fatal crashes with the distance driven by different vehicles and the number of registered vehicles.
It found Tesla has the highest fatal accident rate of all car brands in the US, followed by Kia, Buick, Dodge and Hyundai.
The result comes despite Tesla vehicles such as the Model 3 and Model Y scoring high safety ratings – even setting new records during afety assessment.
The report, compiled by iseecars.com, suggests that “high fatal accident rates reflect driver behaviour as much or more than vehicle design”.
Karl Brauer, iSeeCars executive analyst, says new cars “are safer than they’ve ever been”.
“But these safety features are being countered by distracted driving and higher rates of speed, leading to rising accident and death rates in recent years.
“A vehicle’s size, weight, and height certainly play a part in its ability to protect passengers in a crash.

“high fatal accident rates reflect driver behaviour as much or more than vehicle design”.
Of course. One has a drag racer that is road legal, but I guess the drivers are not conversant in the use of power responsibly, much less handling in adverse conditions. While this can be a problem in any high output vehicle, the perception of a Tesla is not the same as fx, a Porsche GT3.

Thinking a car can drive itself will cause accidents.

Tesla probably exemplifies the overall problem, of too much automation, and too many unseen added safety features which produce a false sense of security by idiot drivers (I contend it’s 80% of persons who could not pass a driving test on the roads today).
Radial tires, anti lock brake systems, finely tuned suspensions, and massive increases in drivetrain power have people doing stupid things all the time. Sure when it’s dry, you can drive like a madman, taking corners too fast, following too closely, accelerate like a bat out of hell, but the instant there is some water or snow, all that normalization of deviance gets you into trouble and accidents.
All these innovations for safety, handling and making things idiot proof, causes drivers to loose touch with the harsh reality of mass, momentum and how dangerous the moves/actions they take really are if conditions change.
Not just loosing touch with physics reality of several ton masses moving fast, but of the harsh reality of human reaction times. 3/4 of a second for brain to recognize a problem and the command for foot to step on the brake has consequences, no matter how superior your car’s handling is. 60 mph is 88 feet per second, so in the typical reaction time you have gone 66 feet, but idiots follow at 20-30 feet!
And then we are starting to have failures in some of these “innovations” like not having direct connection between brake pedal and brake actuators, or same for steering – more and more new cars have a very poor man’s “fly by wire” where the computer decides if the driver’s input is valid and adjusts the response. Scary, very scary.

No safer than a 1960 Corvair. Just like the mRNA poisons, EVs have been rushed to market without an ounce of aforethought. Just gimme the money, never mind how many are murdered.
