Public Health Wales Admits 80% of New COVID Patients Already Vaxxed!

On September 24th, Wal;es Online published an article about how many coronavirus patients in Welsh hospitals have been vaccinated.

The article states:

Data from Public Health Wales shows that of the 614 people in hospital with Covid on September 21 a total of 80.3 percent (493) of them were double-jabbed, 4.2 percent (26) had received one jab, and 12.9 percent (79) were unvaccinated.

Of the 470 coronavirus inpatients aged 60 and over 90 percent had been given both vaccine doses, 2.6 percent one dose, and 7 percent were unvaccinated.

Of the 144 patients under 60 with Covid 48.6 percent had been double-jabbed, 9.7 percent had received one dose, and 31.9 percent were unvaccinated.

As a significant majority of adults in Wales have now received two doses of the Covid vaccine experts said it is “to be expected” that a significant proportion of people in hospital will be fully vaccinated.

However the data clearly demonstrates that people are far more likely to wind up in hospital should they have received no jab at all.

Really? To me that data shows the exact opposite! 80.3 percent of hospital admissions being fully vaxxed does not indicate the unvaxxed are more likely to be admitted to hospital.

Public Health Wales has explained this by comparing the rate of hospitalisation in vaccinated and unvaccinated people per 100,000 population – similar to the seven-day Covid infection rate reported each day.

Trying to be clever with data manipulation.

In the four-week period between August 23 and September 19 the Covid hospital admissions per 100,000 people was 32 in fully-vaccinated people and 53 in unvaccinated people.

In the over-60s, where people are far more likely to need hospital treatment, the Covid hospital admissions per 100,000 was 63 in fully-vaccinated people and 121 in unvaccinated. This means that if you are unvaccinated and in this age group you’re twice as likely to need a hospital admission.

Similarly the data shows that the number of people becoming seriously ill, needing hospital treatment, and dying is much lower in the third wave than the previous two thanks, in no small part, to the vaccine rollout.

Currently the seven-day average number of deaths in Wales is nine whereas at the height of the second peak in January it was above 30 – that’s despite the seven-day infection rate being roughly the same in both periods.

Dr Chris Williams, consultant epidemiologist for Public Health Wales, said: “The best way to understand vaccine effectiveness is to look at population level studies and not at hospital data. These population studies consistently show that vaccines reduce transmission, serious illness, hospitalisation, and death from coronavirus. Protection against hospitalisation is estimated at around 95 percent after the second dose of vaccine. The much lower rates of serious illness, hospitalisation, and death during this wave is further evidence of the impact of vaccination.”

He added: “A large majority of adults in Wales have now received two doses of coronavirus vaccine so it is to be expected that a significant proportion of people in hospital will be fully vaccinated. Also the majority of people in hospital are older. This group is more likely to be vaccinated but also are more likely to be hospitalised because of underlying health conditions, reduced immune response, and because they are more clinically vulnerable. The single best thing you can do to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community from coronavirus is to take up the offer of a vaccine. The incidence of hospitalisation is around two-thirds lower in vaccinated under-60s compared to unvaccinated and about 40 percent lower in vaccinated over-60s than unvaccinated.”

Meanwhile the data also revealed that a third of people with confirmed Covid cases in Wales in the past week were unvaccinated. Some 99 percent of people who tested positive for Covid in the past week in Wales were under 60. Of these, 37 percent were unvaccinated.

This means that two thirds of cases were in the fully vaccinated.

The most recent PHW figures show that 2,403,572 people have received a first dose of the Covid vaccine and 2,214,247 people have had both doses.

All healthy 12 to 15-year-olds in Wales will be offered a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine in the coming weeks while the booster vaccine is being rolled out to frontline healthcare workers, care home residents, over-50s, and younger adults with health conditions.

Across Wales the seven-day infection rate is rising and now stands at 582 – up on the 559.9 reported on Thursday.

The local authority with the highest infection rate in Wales is Neath Port Talbot with 898 cases per 100,000 population over seven days followed by Merthyr Tydfil with 838.8 and Rhondda Cynon Taf with 768.9.

898 per 100,000 is less than one percent.

Test positivity rates across Wales have reach 15.3 percent with Neath Port Talbot having the greatest proportion of tests coming back positive at 19.7 percent. Positivity rates are higher than 11 percent in all 22 local authority areas in Wales.

This strikes me as either Wales Online is just parroting what PHW says, and they haven’t actually looked at the figures, or they are deliberately trying to deceive the public.

This is not a mathematical equation. The vaccine is supposed to prevent severe reactions to covid.
What the data shows is that the vaccination is failing. The people in hospital, theoretically should be all non vaccinated.

More of this drivel from PSI. You must take into account the total number of people who are double vaccinated and calculate the percentage in hospital, using thatbfigure. Because large numbers have now been vaccinated it means fewer vaccinated people are in hospital. This is just as bad as the use of relative risk reduction to calculate vaccine efficacy.

The data presented in the article shows most now in hospital are fully vaxxed.

Hi Andy and those who can and do read.
The oft quoted line “fully vaccinated” is an oxymoron.
6 months after the second Pfizer jab efficacy has dropped to 39% and at the time of the third shot efficacy has dropped to less than 10%.
It is not possible to use the term fully vaxxed when efficacy is continuously degrading.
        Yup. Matt

          Hi MattH,

Very, very GOOD!!! Who can question that ““fully vaccinated” is an oxymoron”??? What vaccine has historically required a booster shot after only a few months???

          Have a good day, Jerry

What’s the percentage of vaccinated people? You can
t make sense of the above unless you know that.

If we assume the percentage of vaccinated is similar to England then let’s say around 80% have been jabbed. So, if the vaccines were zero percent effective in reducing hospitalisation, then there would likely be around 80% of patients who had been vaccinated and that does seem to be the case.

I conclude that there is no evidence (yet), that the vaccines encourage infection, hospitalisation or death, but there is clear evidence they are a waste of time.
