How a Conventional Psychiatrist Discovered Her Biggest Lie

Picture this: A young, Cornell-trained psychiatrist, armed with an MIT neuroscience degree, specializing in medicating pregnant women, eating McDonald’s for lunch and downing six cups of coffee a day

That was me — absolutely certain I knew everything about health.

Until life decided to teach me a humbling lesson.

Ten months after my first pregnancy, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis on a routine physical.

My conventional medical training told me this was a “chronic, incurable disease”. But something inside me said No.

I was experiencing symptoms that were easy to write off as “common” postpartum — forgetting my ATM pin, double-booking patients, feeling like I was floating above myself.

The conventional system’s answer? A lifetime prescription. My answer?

A radical journey into the unknown and an eventual departure from every aspect of my familiar identity as a New Yorker, pedigreed clinician, atheist, daughter, wife, sister, friend, and mother…my Good Girl self

This journey began with a highly out-of-character decision to visit a naturopath. Me — the hardcore pharmaceutical devotee who had previously dismissed alternative medicine as nonsense at best and reckless at worst.

What happened next changed everything. By simply changing my diet — cutting out gluten and dairy (goodbye, beloved cheese!) and committed lifestyle modifications — I watched my antibodies drop to zero.

My TSH normalized. I had put an “incurable” autoimmune condition into complete remission. But this wasn’t just about healing my thyroid. This was about discovering a fundamental lie in my medical training: that we are helpless victims of our bodies, condemned to a lifetime of brokenness.

I became not just a healed patient, but a renegade. My anger at the system I once upheld became the fuel for a mission: to liberate women from the psychiatric pill mill and show them their true meaning behind their struggle.

In my conversation with Joe Rogan, I shared the full story — from Ivy League psychiatrist to fierce defender of the body’s innate power to heal. It’s one of the most candid, wide-ranging interviews I’ve ever done.

    Seriously

Each person, woken from the coma of modern medicine, is a win. Hopefully the next generation will do what recent previous generations have done…reject their parents. Because the millennial, gen z’s, are downing pharmaceutical bullshit at an alarming rate. And the propaganda machine is in full tilt. I cannot remember the last time a program, serial, movie or other consumable entertainment has NOT exhorted the need for some character(s), needing mental health treatment, medication intervention, to fix their life!! And then poof!!!…everything has a happy ending…🙄
