Fight the Good Fight Against COVID Hysteria!
Sometimes I share with you something I receive in the ol’ mailbag. Usually these are particularly awful cases of abuse related to COVID. This one, though, simply sums up the way millions of us are feeling.
Thank you so much for your continued work on this. I am one of the many who have been introduced to your work by your commentary on the virus.
I’m writing from the UK where the government have now set out its route out of lockdown- setting arbitrary dates on which we may get some of our freedom back…freedoms that weren’t theirs to take away in the first place!
I constantly have conversations with friends, family and colleagues who believe in the COVID voodoo (the type that end every conversation or message with #staysafe) and in response I cite data, peer reviewed papers and studies that show lockdowns, masks etc. have no effect on the virus. A lot of these people I would describe as rational, intelligent human beings. I am baffled therefore, to hear them repeating government propaganda and slogans, mask shaming and saying things like “these lockdowns are not strict enough” and “if these people just followed the rules, we would be out of this by now.” I even had one person (who had even had the vaccine) tell me, “I hope they don’t open things up too quickly as cases will spike.” To top that conversation, I was on a Zoom call with a group of friends and someone mentioned that some countries had no masks, lockdowns etc. and they had lower numbers than the UK….silence….I waited with bated breath….then “well maybe they are just being more careful and are wearing masks anyway.” So close.
It seems no amount of data or argument will shift these people from this stance. It is bizarre. Quite frankly, I am running out of energy to argue as it doesn’t make a difference to their zealous belief in these ludicrous policies. I’ve even had members of my own family follow the guidelines like sheep — even when today’s guidelines ban activities that you were “allowed” to do yesterday they follow without question. Like something magical happens at midnight.
It is disturbing how many people have welcomed so much interference into our lives. Moreover, it is frustrating how little I can do about it.
Thank you once again for continuing to fight the good fight, you are indeed, keeping me sane.
I hear his frustration: data and evidence amount to nothing to these alleged “followers of science.” Absolutely bizarre.
My own plan of action:
(1) Keep writing about it.
(2) Relentlessly share charts that undermine the official line. When people worry that opening X or Y will lead to devastation, show charts from places that have opened X or Y. Or remove the labeling and ask: which of these places, based on the charts, do you think limited indoor dining, and which didn’t? We definitely need more quizzes like that. Maybe when they keep scoring zero, something will get through their thick skulls.
(3) Support people who defy the orders, and even politicians (whom I normally do not support) who favor reopening.
(4) Most of all, care for my own friends and loved ones, and help them navigate through the craziness.
If you’re feeling isolated — or if you just enjoy the Tom Woods Show — I hope you’ll join us in our haven of sanity, the Tom Woods Show Elite, where you’ll find a whole bunch of people who see things exactly as you do.

All we can do is keep on keeping on,unfortunately we are faced with people that would rather believe what they see on CNN rather than their own family. Even when you show the actual stats they would rather go with what is popular,I have tried on different occasions to show how useless a mask is at retarding virus transfer but they look at you like you are from mars as if they must work or why would we be wearing them. The fact is that we have been wearing them for months to no avail but still we must continue. People today have reached a very low collective IQ where they simply can’t or won’t think.

I think it works something like this- It has become a religion to them so not surprising. Religion relies on believing “something” with no proof but once you have been brainwashed into it you would fight with your life to protect that belief. Same as the climate change meme.

As the wise man (Mark twain I think) said: “It is much harder to convince a person that they have been fooled than it is to fool them in the first place. There is a very good line to that effect in a song by the king in the musical The King and I which I can’t quite recall verbatim so will leave it to those interested to find out for themselves.

The line concerned goes something like “A man will fight to the death to defend something that he cannot prove to be true, is true”. Just look at our history of religious wars and murderous genocides. The people who planned this are well aware of these ‘truths’ and are very clever at establishing the belief in them that their plans require. We doubting Thomases are the only hope for the human race. A pretty big responsibility to carry on my old shoulders.

It’s true, no matter what you say or send in terms of substantial information that is right out there, they will fight tooth and nail for the government propaganda, even quoting what they hear on the MSN. It’s been shocking how many friends once thought to be intelligent and discerning are running to get the vaccine, convinced it’s their path to survival and “normalcy.” I occasionally send info now, but not to those who’ve gotten the vaccine, certainly, but have mostly given up and hope I don’t see them suffer in the months to come.

Tom Woods,
My life mirrors yours very much. Most of the family when I show them validated and verified science papers they say that it is just my opinion, just my beliefs. All of them appear to be driven by over emotional ideas that hype up the government’s nonsense (be it this virus or as they call it the climate crisis). My sister in California is the worst of them, the iodocracy of that state has truly penetrated her very being. Some days are very tough!

Hi Tom0mason,
Most of our lives mirrors his (Tom Woods’).
It all comes to: HOW DO YOU RELATE TO THE TRUTH? (Whatever that is or may have been, or even perceived.)
Some of us are life-long “seekers” of that phenomenon, never satisfied, turning every rock etc., while some are more ambivalent and more easily “satisfied” with common explanations or, worse, the official narratives. Some of the latter even admit to “being tired” of upholding the difference…
The very bottom of the opposite to truth seeking is this latest “woke” attack on “critical thinking” — just that would make many give up on humanity and turn to booze or “sh*t” to fill the rest of their days with something else than reason.
I found these very responses, aka ‘comments’ here do somehow allow us to avoid that resignation or the plain old running out naked yelling ‘everybody’s crazy!’
Cheers, an insomniac JaKo

Two hidden disabilities make me exempt from wearing a face covering (though quite apart from these disabilities I consider myself exempt on grounds of sanity), yet I still get comments at times from strangers about my “no mask” attire. I’ve even had one occasion where this guy seemed to launch into a personal quest against me in a local supermarket. I gave him what for, in response to which he called a store colleague and asked them to evict me – upon which the colleague took him to one side to explain and reassure him about exempt people’s right to shop there unmasked. I even had a receptionist challenge me when I went for a recent podiatry appointment. Whether I’m just more on the lookout for this and so more conscious of it I’m not sure, but it certainly seems to have gotten worse recently. I’m with everyone here in that the nonsense has to stop – or be stopped.

Human beings may be capable of rational thought but we are not rational animals. We are driven by a combination of our instincts and socially conditioned responses. We are a herd animal in large numbers with more predatory smaller groups exhibiting pack behaviour, the bottom line is that we are hardwired to follow the leader and believe without question their edicts. Humans may have evolved technologically but we remain tied to our natural roots where acting as one under the leadership of a chief/alpha helped our tribe/herd deal with threats or natural crises. While our instincts and our ability to learn the experience of previous generations through social conditioning has many positive aspects, they also have negative consequences in that we can be driven by fear and pass on irrational or outdated dogmatic beliefs as if the were observable reality.
Critical thinking can be a defensive against following religious or secular social dogmas and blindly following the dictates of our leaders.
Maybe you think I’m talking unqualified bs but the proof of what I’m saying lies in our history and observation of current behaviour. If we are rational beings why do we so easily believe irrational doctrines whether they be religious or secular like communism or climate doom. If we are rational why have we followed and supported irrational murderous religious purges and secular ones like fascism or communism. Millions of people unquestionably following their leaders to murder their neighbours or put their own lives on the line in pointless ideological wars.
We are an irrational animal that is easily lead down destructive paths and unless something radically changes we are on the verge of an era of destruction that will rival the last world war.
