Coronavirus – A perspective from Britain Part 17
This article covers the first half of December. Above is the chart from the BBC virus webpage for the number of new cases in the UK up to December 15th. This first item came in too late to be included in the previous article. On the 30th November, the London Economic website reported the Government’s vaccine minister Nadhim Zahawi as saying pubs and restaurants could demand to know if a customer has received a coronavirus jab before allowing them in.
It can be seen here: www.thelondoneconomic.com
On December 2nd, the Daily Mail reported on a YouGov poll that found 20% of Britons do not want a vaccine because of concerns about their safety after being rushed into production in a matter of months, and almost 70% were against it being made mandatory.
Hardly surprising considering vaccines usually take up a decade or more to develop and make safe.
It also reported that Britain’s drug regulator the MHRA today became the first in the world to approve a Covid vaccine, and will become available to some members of the public as soon as next week. Some 800,000 doses of the Pfizer’s vaccine – which requires people getting two doses 21 days apart – will be made available ‘from next week’.
The same day, Professor Jonathan Van-Tam; deputy chief medical officer, said he can envisage Britons wearing facemasks for years to come, even after a successful virus vaccine becomes available, out of a sense of duty.
Oh really, you think?
He also effectively said accept the vaccine or be prepared to be refused entry to most products and services. That is effectively making it mandatory.
One of my social media friends shared this piece of propaganda on the 4th
Another commented:
Come on people, join in with the charade. The NHS is telling you to “ACT LIKE YOU’VE GOT IT” Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous? It’s so severe that we shut down the entire planet but you have to ACT like you’ve got it. Start acting like you have the virus, because even if you actually have it, you’ll probably be asymptomatic. And the WHO stated that asymptomatic people can’t spread it. So now you should do your bit for your grandma and your country and ACT LIKE YOU’VE GOT IT. Because that makes sense.
On the 4th, the BBC virus webpage said:
The BBC’s Head of statistics Robert Cuffe says that so far, the second waver has been lower and slower than the first.
The same day, it was reported that Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford had asked people not to travel outside Wales for Christmas shopping. He also outlined the raft of measures for the hospitality sector on Monday and plunged the country into a lockdown just weeks after the last one.
The hospitality sector in Wales has been rocked by the move, which will see a 6pm curfew on pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes – including a blanket ban on selling alcohol for the rest of the year.
Drakeford was quoted as saying “The clear and unambiguous advice to people is not to do it. Because to do it is to add to the risks that we are already facing, and those risks are already driving coronavirus rates rapidly upwards.”
Rapidly upwards? If you look at the hospital admissions illustration below, you will see they dropped slightly during November.
On the 5th, the BBC virus webpage said infections had fallen in every region in England at the beginning of December.
Julia Hartley-Brewer of Talk Radio tweeted this on the 7th:
On the 8th, the media made great play of the first two people in the UK to be given the Pfizer vaccine; Mrs Margaret Keenan and….wait for it….Mr William Shakespeare, who just happens to live in Stratford-upon-Avon.
The same day, Oxford University scientists published a study ‘proving’ their virus vaccine was safe and 70 per cent effective in clinical trials.
Notice the wording: 70% effective in clinical trials. Clinical trials that have been rushed through without the animal testing phase, which was allowed to be missed out.
Also on the 8th, the Independent reported the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency warned that people who have a history of “significant” allergic reactions should not be given the Pfizer vaccine, after two NHS staff members suffered an allergic reaction.
What were we saying about unwanted side effects??
The article also said: “Resuscitation facilities should be available at all times for all vaccinations. Vaccination should only be carried out in facilities where resuscitation measures are available.”
Let me get this straight; people who have the vaccine might need resuscitating??
It can be seen here:
The same day, Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that all 11 areas currently in level four in central Scotland are to be downgraded to level three from 6am on Friday.
On the 10th, Welsh education minister Kirsty Williams announced all secondary schools and colleges in Wales will close from Monday and pupils will be told to return to online learning in a “desperate attempt to reduce the spread of coronavirus.”
Also on the 10th, the UK overtook Italy by cases, to reach 6th place.
The following day, The Department of Health confirmed that the 14-day period of self-isolation will be reduced to ten days as from December 14th.
Also on the 11th, a new study published this week in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, finds that the government-imposed lockdowns have caused significant harm to children’s mental health. This study was the first of its kind to analyse data on younger children’s mental health before and during the first lockdown in the United Kingdom last spring.
Following 168 children between the ages of 7 ½ and 11 ½, the researchers conclude “During the UK lockdown, children’s depression symptoms have increased substantially, relative to before lockdown. The scale of this effect has direct relevance for the continuation of different elements of lockdown policy, such as complete or partial school closures.” (Emphasis added)

On the 12th, the UK dropped to 8th place by cases, having been overtaken by Turkey and Italy.
The same day, the PM urged families to ‘think hard’ about seeing loved ones at Christmas after it was reported NHS bosses warned relaxing restrictions over the festive period ‘could lead to cases spiralling out of control yet again.’
On the 14th, Matt Hancock said: “…over the last few days thanks to our world class genomic skills in the UK we have identified a new variant of coronavirus.”
He said this may be linked to the faster spread in the south of England. Hancock said this variant has been identified in 1,000 cases so far and is thought to spread faster than the initial strain of Covid-19.
Well well, a new strain spreading faster, I wonder if this is the excuse the UN was looking for to instruct governments to keep or increase regulations.
On the 14th, Matt Hancock announced that London and parts of Essex and Hertfordshire would be placed in the highest tier 3 from the 16th, because of an exponential rise in cases in some areas.
On the 15th, in only their second joint editorial in 100 years, the British Medical Journal and the Health Service Journal, called on the PM to change tack because of rising cases of the virus across parts of England.
They both warned that hospital bed capacity risked being overwhelmed if there was a Christmas relaxation, calling on the government to “reverse its rash decision to allow household mixing in order to bring numbers down in the advance of a likely third wave”.
A ‘likely third wave’. What should we expect after that, a fourth wave and a fifth?
The R number
On the 9th October, the R number was showing as 1.2-1.5. By the 18th, it had changed to 1.3-1.5. Surprisingly, on the 23rd, it had reduced slightly to 1.2-1.4. By the 31st, it had dropped to 1.1-1.3, and by the 13th November had dropped again to 1-1.2, by the 30th had dropped to 0.9-1, by the 4th December it had dropped to 0.8-1, and by December 15th had risen slightly again to 0.9-1 as shown below.
According to Worldometer, the number of people in hospital in critical condition in the UK had risen to 978 by the 31st October, and risen again to 1355 by November 15th, to 1417 on the 30th. In late November it started to fall; to 1351 by December 2nd, to 1315 on the 3rd, had fallen to 1243 on the 10th, and increased to 1288 by the 15th, still below the 1559 I recorded at the height of the first wave.
This is the chart for UK deaths up to December 15th.
Notice the heading on the chart above. I do not call half the number of deaths in April high.
The BBC virus webpage has changed the wording for deaths, to now read ‘coronavirus-related deaths’, which includes people suspected of having died from the virus, even if they were not tested.
The five-year average
The graphic below shows the five-year average of UK deaths to 15th December, and we see as with every other year, once colder weather gets here, deaths start to rise. However, they are at present above ‘normal’ for this time of year.
According to Worldometer, the number of active cases worldwide as of December 15th stands at 20.27 million. Of those, 20.17 million are mild, with just 106,000 classed as serious / critical. In the UK, we have 1.8 million total cases, with 1288 classed as serious / critical.
Hospital admissions.
Two slips of the tongue occurred in the last few days that some people are making a big issue of. The first was in an interview with the BBC on November 29th, where Professor Joh Bell of the SAGE group commented….
“These vaccines are unlikely to completely sterilize a population…”.
The video of this can be seen here: www.youtube.com
The second was by the PM, where he was describing storing the vaccine. He said
“…the virus has to be stored at minus 70 degrees…”
Various social media ‘experts’ have been sharing these two gaffes as proof of government conspiracies against us. Speaking for myself; I find it hard to accept the government and the SAGE group would openly admit to deliberately working against the population.
Dr Mike Yeadon was recently quoted as saying: “There is absolutely no need for vaccines to extinguish the pandemic. I’ve never heard such nonsense talked about vaccines. You do not vaccinate people who aren’t at risk from a disease. You also don’t set about planning to vaccinate millions of fit and healthy people with a vaccine that hasn’t been extensively tested on human subjects.” (Emphasis added)
During early December, it was revealed by The Telegraph that the government has saved £600 million of state pension payments after the deaths of recipients.
One of my friends summed it up rather well when he said last week: A load of fuss manufactured to sell newspapers, and exploited to complete obedience training of entire populations.
It seems to me that if people wish to return to a normal life, they must accept whatever vaccines they are offered, with the alternative being forced to remain isolated from the rest of the community indefinitely.
One of my social media friends commented a few days ago: “…for which of other diseases did we shut the whole world down, destroy lives, drive up suicides, criminalise breathing and physical contact/proximity, stop hospital/medical treatments, get brainwashed into seeing each other as unwitting serial killers, live in fear of living a normal life, have all rights of speech and movement removed, and turn families and communities against each other?”
I must apologise about locating Kirklees in Scotland in my last article. It is in fact near Huddersfield. Thanks to Joseph Patrick Annett for the correction.
