Charts the masked-up, lockdown-lovers can’t explain

You may have noticed something about your social media contacts. They think cases go up when people disregard state-imposed restrictions, and go down when they comply. These are people who haven’t seen any charts.

Some of the ones that follow were generated by Ian Miller (@ianmSC), and some by me using the Worldometers site.

Let’s start with two Orange Counties, one in California and one in Florida. The one in California has been shut down for eight months. It is the home of the only Disney property in the world that is still closed. California has a young population: it’s the 44th oldest of the 50 states.

The one in Florida is completely open, including theme parks and entertainment venues, with no state-imposed occupancy restrictions. Florida is the second-oldest of the 50 states. Isn’t it funny how closely the two track each other — until the end, of course, when California’s goes through the roof?

I guess California and Florida obey and then disobey at exactly the same time. What a coincidence! Well, let’s check in on California at large — all those restrictions must be really helping:

Ahem.

Let’s check on Mississippi and Alabama. They’re right next to each other, with very similar populations, but the’ve imposed mask mandates at different times and had different timetables and policies for the reopening of various kinds of businesses. Their charts must be wildly different, right?

And yet:

Poland has had a mask mandate as of April 17. Apparently they must have started ignoring guidelines and began traveling for some kind of Polish Thanksgiving in early October:

Here’s what deaths in Poland look like:

Back in May, we got stories about Slovakia like this one in the Atlantic: “Lessons From Slovakia—Where Leaders Wear Masks. The country’s politicians led by example, helping it flatten its curve.”

I guess there’s some Slovakian tradition in October where they burn their masks.

Or how about Hungary:

And here’s Germany, the land of $5000 fines for not wearing masks:

Isn’t this weird? It’s like all the peoples of central Europe conspired to ignore public health recommendations all at once!

It’s almost like there’s some kind of seasonal pattern going on in central Europe — but we know that can’t be, because rises in deaths are always somebody’s fault.

Let’s make a quick trip to Asia: check out the similarity of the curves in Japan and South Korea. How weird that their peoples followed, then disregarded, then followed, and then again disregarded public health recommendations at precisely the same time in both places!

Remember being told how bad we all were for visiting people during Thanksgiving? There are major spikes in many countries of the world, as we’ve just seen, even without a Thanksgiving there, but our betters aren’t letting that stop them from blaming us for a rise in hospitalizations. (The rate of growth in hospitalizations in the U.S. actually slowed after Thanksgiving, incidentally.)

But here’s the problem:

More than half of the hospitalization increase after Thanksgiving occurred in California and New York! Didn’t those jokers hear that the way to avoid this is by lockdowns and masks? Sheesh!

Oh, and here are North and South Dakota. North Dakota imposed a bunch of occupancy restrictions to “stop the spread.” South Dakota didn’t.

Gee, isn’t that funny — their numbers look exactly the same:

I think I’ve made my point.

This is interesting, and when you consider what Zach Bush, the scientist that RFK Jr talks to in the video on one of these articles, it makes sense. The reason I say that is that Bush says the virus itself is not an issue, but it binds to pollution particles and brings pollution particles in with it. But he also was saying that the deaths are hypoxia deaths – lack of oxygen deaths, not respiratory ailment deaths. The problem is it affects red blood cells, thus there is less red blood cells carrying oxygen. Then we put on a mask and lower the amount of oxygen that we breath in besides by trapping a small amount of CO2 rich air around our mouth and nose, replacing the oxygen that we would have breathed in with unrestricted breathing. So seeing the deaths increasing as we “mask up” sure makes sense to me.

Tom O, You do know that hardly any of the oxygen that we breath in is consumed in a single breath right? Please get your facts straight.

Boi, your comment appears to confirm the proverb: ” a little knowledge is a dangerous thing”!

You have obviously never actually used a mask or full respirator for practical purposes. If you use a respirator to eliminate say, organic vapors, such as is used for spray painting or layup of polyester fiberglass, you can only do short runs of wearing the respirator and doing these tasks, before you must stop and remove the mask to allow body to recover from the reduced oxygen uptake.

Of course each individual would have slightly different tolerance for reducing oxygen whilst working – but reduced O2 uptake does occur with wearing a respirator or mask.

And an industrial respirator has a one way valve to eliminate the expelled CO2, not mix it in with the surgical mask case. (and industrial respirator cartridges have a bold warning on them to the effect of “does not protect against any bacterial or viral contagions” – while they are orders of magnitude better at filtration than are surgical masks)

Tom O is correct, constant mask wearing WILL reduce your O2 uptake; you are – misinformed.

        @ Boi

        Tom O is correct!

“When we exhale, the composition of the air remains almost same as the air we inhale, only the percentage of carbon dioxide and oxygen changes. The amount of inhaled air contains 21% of oxygen and 0.04% of carbon dioxide, while the air we breathe out contains 16.4% of oxygen and 4.4% of carbon dioxide.” (Quote from https://byjus.com/biology/composition-gases-breathe/ ).

But if you understand the chemistry you can easily calculate it yourself.

    Just an observation:
Most search engines managed to wipe out substantial portion of references to real studies on effects of mask wearing (types, efficacy, oxygenation levels etc.); e.g. the recent danish study (DANMASK-19) is buried deep and you have to specifically ask for it show at all.
In an older study mask wearing by general population starts having a measurable impact when, If I recall correctly, >10% of the herd are infected and symptomatic (i.e. infectious); our (US, Canada…) recent rates are a minuscule fraction of the requirement for any positive effect.
    To conclude:
Since most countries/states mandated mask-wearing, the original “virtue-signalling” description no longer applies and the mask-wearing remains just a convenient indicator of obedience level in the general population.
    Cheers, JaKo

In my previous role with my company I wore a cartridge respirator to perform my job for 19 years. The cartridge was a HEPA type filter and I will tell you that it does affect your breathing. I could only wear it and be exerting myself for short periods and then would have to take a break. Part of our mask protocol and health protection for the wearer, we had to take a pulmonary test every two years to verify our lung capacity could handle wearing the mask. I will just say I’m glad I don’t have to wear it anymore.

Could you possibly cross reference this data with data from previous year and further in the past sick maps. For instance influenza, common cold and other respiratory illnesses. Perhaps a pattern might emerge? Thanks!

Could the upswing in new cases possibly be because China has been re-releasing a fresh supply of covid virus to keep numbers sufficiently high, which will continue to spread fear and make it appear that nothing we do can mitigate this virus? How else to explain all of these upswings after improvements in case numbers? And how else to explain the decline in cases in China? Never underestimate their potential for evil.

it’s pretty obvious,at least to rational thinking people, that most folks read articles that agree with what they themselves believe to be true and ignore what they believe NOT to be true…REGARDLESS of the facts..getting the FACTS seems to be the real problem..and getting these FACTS “fact-checked” is another..SOCIAL MEDIA is the single biggest threat to getting any real facts..i am thankful for the few “not so MSM” that at least give an option…

If you want t know what te president’s penis looks like, go to the MSM. If you want facts, you have to dig them up yourselves. According to CNN, Trump died from eating cheese burgers
all his life and Bernie is as healthy as a horse when he is not in cardiac arrest.

The bottom line on the wearing of masks is easily researched by of all sources the Federal OSHA workplace oxygen standards. OSHA requires a minimum oxygen content in all work sites to be 19 1/2 %. When levels drop below that number the work site is to be evacuated immediately to fresh air. The oxygen level behind a mask measures lower than 19 1/2 % and will cause oxygen uptake problems for people who work extended hours behind a mask. To quote Anthoney Fauci last February “The wearing of a mask during an epodemic or a pandemic will make the people wearing masks feel better about the circumstances but actually has no medical value”. How soon we forget. No mask for this boy.
