Astronomy Picture of the Day
Point your telescope toward the high flying constellation Pegasus and you can find this expanse of Milky Way stars and distant galaxies. NGC 7814 is centered in the pretty field of view that would almost be covered by a full moon.
NGC 7814 is sometimes called the Little Sombrero for its resemblance to the brighter more famous M104, the Sombrero Galaxy.
Both Sombrero and Little Sombrero are spiral galaxies seen edge-on, and both have extensive halos and central bulges cut by a thin disk with thinner dust lanes in silhouette.
In fact, NGC 7814 is some 40 million light-years away and an estimated 60,000 light-years across.
That actually makes the Little Sombrero about the same physical size as its better known namesake, appearing smaller and fainter only because it is farther away.
In this telescopic view from July 17, NGC 7814 is hosting a newly discovered supernova, dominant immediately to the left of the galaxy’s core.
Cataloged as SN 2021rhu, the stellar explosion has been identified as a Type Ia supernova, useful toward calibrating the distance scale of the universe.

That’s really substandard CGI.
You could make more convincing stuff with 30 year old software in about 15 minutes.

I mean even if it isn’t, couldn’t care less.
There is absolutely zero about NASA I respect, believe in, or even anything I’m interested in.
The amount of theft/fraud/laundering sort of stuff associated with NASA makes them utterly contemptible in my view.

Here’s some official NASA “footage” that was aired on CNN once.
It’s really amazing how sciency space is.
You can just see how much science is at work there to provide such stunningly really authentic images.

Hi PSI Readers,
“Point your telescope toward the high flying constellation Pegasus and you can find this expanse of Milky Way stars and distant galaxies. NGC 7814 is centered in the pretty field of view that would almost be covered by a full moon.”
Most important: Read—(http://www.columbia.edu/cu/pr/00/01/pleiades.html)–for background.
The morning of July 6, 2021, I lay on my back looking up at the millions of stars which one can see where there is very little light pollution shortly after 2am standard local time. I was doing this at this time because it had been a long time that I had seen the Milky Way. My latitude was a little bit North of 42N. And there was the Milky Way. But there was a problem; the direction of the Milky Way was nearly North-South instead of East-West. And I had to conclude the Milky Way I was observing was the twilight produced by the solar radiation passing through the Earth’s atmosphere high, high, high above the Earth’s surface.
Based on this reasoning I looked for evidence of the East-West Milky Way where I considered it should be. And there was no evidence of it. Then I considered that I had read that Newton had concluded that Stars were spaced far, far, apart so the gravity of their great masses would not significantly influence their individual motions.
Hence, I seriously question if there is a Milky Way whose light is due to distant stars.
What do you ponder???
Have a good day, Jerry

Hi PSI Reader,
The evidence is strong that very few read my comments carefully, if anyone reads them at all.
For I get the opportunity to correct myself. Pleiades and Pegasus both start with the letter P but there the similarity ends. But one might find the link interesting to read.
Have a good day, Jerry

I read some of it but was triggered by the Pleiades reference and immediately thought of Alcyone, the Mayans, Atlantis, etc.

Oh, I just want to point out that Whitney Webb souled out. Sorry dear, you are unwelcome and unwanted.
Anyway, here’s something related to that Pegasus…

It’s real NICE.

Oh it’s interesting that you mention that because I’m from Orion and I was thinking of taking a trip to Alcyone.
