Eight states to offer digital IDs on Apple devices

Apple announced Wednesday that eight states will begin offering digital versions of their driver’s licenses and identification cards compatible with the computing giant’s mobile devices.

Residents of those states who own iPhones or Apple Watches will be able to upload their state-issued IDs to the Wallet app — which is also used to store airline tickets, credit cards, transit passes and movie and concert tickets — in those devices, the company said.

Arizona and Georgia will be the first states to make their licenses compatible with Apple Wallet, with the others — Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah —  to follow later, according to an Apple press release.

The digital IDs will also be accepted at airport checkpoints staffed by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, the agency’s director, David Pekoske, said in the Apple release.

The digital IDs will be available when Apple releases iOS 15, Jennifer Bailey, the company’s vice president for its Wallet and Apple Pay products, said at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June. The operating system update is expected sometime this fall.

In its press release, Apple boasted that its customers’ identity data is “encrypted and protected against tampering and theft,” and that its devices’ biometric tools “ensures that only the person who added the ID to the device can view or present their ID or license in Wallet.”

The company also said that state-issued IDs stored on its devices will only be presented through encrypted communication “between the device and the identity reader.”

“Take that at face value,” Armen Najarian of the anti-fraud firm Outseer, which was recently spun off from RSA, told StateScoop.

Although he said it appears Apple has “built the right encryption strategy,” there are still risks to the digital ID option, especially if an individual user’s account is breached.

While Apple has attempted to craft a reputation as a privacy- and security-minded company, iOS has over the past year been found to have significant vulnerabilities that could leave iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches open to targeted hacking.

Last November, the company issued patches for three zero-day flaws, and another in July that, at the time, was apparently being exploited. So far in 2021, Apple has issued at least 13 patches.

The government officials quoted in Apple’s press release, though, were eager to begin offering digital replicas of their state-issued licenses.

“As we look to the future, we are committed to enhancing convenience and accessibility while maintaining the highest safety and security standards for our state and citizens,” Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan was quoted as saying.

A spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Transportation — one of the first agencies that’ll offer digital IDs when iOS 15 is released — said the Apple digital ID is “another example of the [Motor Vehicles Division] using innovative and customer-friendly solutions to get people out of line and safely on the road.”

More than a dozen states and the District of Columbia have in recent years started issuing or made plans to issue digital identifications, stored in third-party apps.

Several of the states signed up with Apple, including Arizona and Maryland, had been dabbling in digital driver’s licenses before the Apple integration. Some states with more developed digital ID programs are not integrating with Apple just yet.

In June, a spokesperson for the Colorado Office of Information Technology told StateScoop it was not participating in the Apple initiative “to avoid confusion and ensure an optimal experience for residents who use and accept the Colorado Digital ID,” which is a core component of a state-branded mobile app.

For now, Apple is not seen as a replacement for any state’s existing digital ID efforts.

The Arizona Department of Transportation in March started offering digital driver’s licenses using software developed by Idemia, an identity-management vendor. The spokesperson said that initiative is not affected by the Apple news.

    Driving Versus Traveling
    By Anna Von Reitz

Here in a nice, succinct example, is a letter being sent to the Governor of the State of Missouri (which is not Missouri) enlightening him about the history and meaning of the legal terms involved in the issue of “driving” versus merely moving from one place to another.

    https://annavonreitz.com/parsons.pdf

We will no doubt issue similar letters in all States of the Union and we have them mocked up in template form, ready to plug in the individual information as needed.

The United States Congress (not the U.S. Congress, which is merely presuming upon the powers delegated to the American Federal Republic) was granted the power to “regulate interstate commerce”. The intent was to prevent competition between the States of the Union and promote the smooth flow of business across borders.

Interstate is synonymous in this case with “international” and “commerce” means business between two incorporated entities.

You can begin to sense that the “interstate commerce clause” has nothing to do with you going to the grocery store, or, most likely, with you, period, at all.

So there is the background and the basis that they, the Federal Subcontractors and their State-of-State franchise operations, used to claim authority to regulate what? Commerce. Business between incorporated entities.

Early on there was a very substantial national debate about licensing “Drivers” who were engaged in commercial business operations and making a living off the public roads — incorporated taxi services, courier services, truckers, businesses like Door Dash, etc., and the decision was made that yes, they were engaged in using the public roads for the profit of privately owned corporations, so they should pay back to the public for the wear and tear.

This is why commercial drivers are licensed.

By seeking and accepting a “Driver License” and registering your car as a “Motor Vehicle” you are admitting that you are engaged in a commercial activity that requires a license.

Simply traveling from Point A to Point B on the public road is not a commercial activity and doesn’t make you a “driver” subject to any regulation by the Federales or their State of State franchises.

A “Commercial Driver License” or “CDL” is merely a license allowing you to drive larger commercial-use conveyances.

Whether you have a plain Driver License to “operate” a small “Motor Vehicle” — another legal term — or a Commercial Driver License to operate a large scale “Motor Vehicle”, it’s all about commerce and commercial profit off of public roads.

You are not engaged in any commercial activity when you go to visit your Sister in Georgia, and aren’t using your car as a “commercial vehicle” when you take the kids to school, so, effectively, when you are coerced to get a Driver License, you are being suborned to lie about yourself, your activities, and your use of your car, which allows the Perpetrators to “regulate” you and your use of the public roads, and also subjects you to their foreign law and jurisdiction.

The State of State franchise and the DMV has forced you to, in effect, falsely incriminate yourself and that is a violation of the Fourth Article, Sixth Article, and Fifth Amendment of both extant Federal Constitutions.

Of course, to claim your Constitutional Guarantees you must first overcome their supposition that you agreed to become a U.S. Citizen at the age of three weeks or so, claim your birthright political status, and make it clear that you are not bound by undisclosed, unconscionable contracts that were signed by Third Parties while you were a baby in your cradle.

As you were never actually and voluntarily a British Territorial U.S. Citizen in the first place, this automatically unravels their second impersonation which attaches your NAME to a Municipal franchise ESTATE trust.

Otherwise the Municipal CORPORATIONS they created in the name of a drowned British Merchant Mariner “lost at sea” — who just happened to have your same name — could give them an excuse for thinking that you are a British Crown Corporation franchise and a “Commercial Vessel”.

Correcting your political status records is Job One.

Overcoming their self-interested “presumptions” is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. They have to learn. We have to teach them. Making sure that the “Legal Departments” of all the police, trooper, and municipal officers are given this information is Job Two.

Job Three is learning how to exercise your rights responsibly, so as to earn the respect and trust of other people in your community, who must gradually understand that, no, you aren’t nuts. You are simply exercising rights and remedies that are yours by nature and birth.

For anyone who didn’t know, the original Social Security cards were issued with the (para)phrase “Not a form of identification” stamped across the front. How did that work out?

If it is your desire to lose all of your Constitutional and privacy rights, you should sign up for a digital ID immediately. If you wish to keep your rights, you should NEVER comply with this overt and intrusive power-grab. Many of us will never volunteer to live under the thumb of tyrants and we hope you will join us.

For those of you who trashed our names for refusal to take the jab, hopefully you can see now that we aren’t the ones trying to mislead you.

Can you find even one person who regrets not playing big pharm lab rat? I doubt it.

Full scale digital tyranny followed by digital prison. I don’t do anything apple but now you know who the real tyrants are. All those tech companies you have come to love. My phone is non-google and only used for calls and texting. My state isn’t on the list yet, but we certainly have our own commandant who is always cracking the whip over us slaves.

Hey Tom, You have what I have been looking for. My cell phone is over a decade old, it has a cracked screen and exactly zero apps that aren’t necessary to make phone calls. Everything related to google, including administrative apps, are disabled. I have taken every step I can think of to change it from a spying device for my enemies to use against me into a regular old telephone. Unfortunately, I can’t find a phone, even a flip phone, that offers what I really want, which is a phone with no wifi or possible means of connecting to the internet. If such a device exists, I’d pay ten times what they ask for the latest SpyPhone without hesitation because to hell with big tech and especially Fuck google!!!
