Study: Canadians Experiencing Worst Standard of Living in 40 Years

The Fraser Institute conducted a study that found Canadians are experiencing the worst standard of living in the past 40 years.

Conditions are beneath what was experienced during the 89 recession, the Great Recession, and even the early stages of the post-pandemic. What is going on in Canada?

Justin Trudeau uprooted Canada’s fiscal landscape and his policies have only further sunk Canada into a decline. I reported that household debt in Canada exceeds 100% of GDP

Government spending toppled $1 trillion in 2020 in response to the pandemic, decreasing only 7.8% to $969.5 billion the following year. Government spending toppled C$520.17 billion during Q1 of 2024 alone.

Justin Trudeau is aiming to turn Canada into a “BUILD BACK BETTER” nation that operates not like a true capitalist society but like the unelected government-driven economy we see in the European Union.

Canada’s immigration policy has become a free-for-all, with its population reaching an all-time high this year after surpassing 41 million.

Nearly all population growth (99.3%; 240,955 people) was solely attributed to migrants arriving in Canada. The taxpayers are expected to subsidize the lives of migrants and turn a blind eye to the drastic uptick in crime.

Canada was once a safe nation with a high-trust society. Crime has risen by over 40% and the entire landscape of Canadian society is changing. These people are often living in squalor and there are not enough housing units or jobs for all migrants, let alone all Canadians.

BUILD BACK BETTERBuild Back Better

Similar to the US, Justin Trudeau is boosting job postings by ramping up hiring in the public sector, which has grown by over 17% since 2019.

For comparison, the private sector only grew by 4% during that same timeframe. The public sector simply does not add to the economy in any meaningful way. These tax-funded agencies simply multiply and deduct from overall GDP.

Similar to other Build Back Better nations, Canada has lost its edge in trade. The countless green initiatives have crippled entire sectors, and rising taxes have made it a less desirable place to conduct business.

Canada experienced a 51.2% reduction in mining, oil, gas, and quarrying from 2014 to 2022, as one example. Business investments have decreased by a third under Trudeau, yet he continues to spend.

Build Back Better has failed. As the “Roadmap for a Renewed US-Canada Partnership” details:

‘“Building back better” represents a shared vision for a sustainable and inclusive economic recovery that strengthens the middle class, creates more opportunities for hard working people to join it, and ensures people have good jobs and careers on both sides of the border. Our leaders also recognized the opportunity for clean growth driven by workers, communities, businesses, and innovation.”

These government leaders are utter failures who are incapable of implementing meaningful policies. They destroyed the world economy under COVID and then sought to BUILD BACK BETTER.

Instead, they’ve driven away smart money and business, fostered an environment for rising crime, and decreased everyone’s quality of life with inflationary policies. It is time for the voters to wake up and realize that the people they put into office are directly responsible for their deteriorating economic situations.

Never used to have thousands living in tents and on the streets. We can thank liberal socialism for their constant desire to improve the life of Canadians. s/

This is not surprising at all, born and living here in Canada, I am embarrassed to call my self a Canadian. Just try to buy anything made or grown in Canada, need a car – nope, lawn mower – nope, need stockings or clothing – nope. Our Gubberment is hell-bent on putting Canadians out of work, in favour of buying goods and services NOT made or supplied by Canadians – Globalization is not a good idea. Small Family Farms, Small Family business or industry – all gone! – try to find a black smith shop to fix or weld a piece of equipment – good luck – there used to be one in every small town or village.

      Hi Solarsmurph,

You probably do not know one can now “find a black smith shop to fix or weld a piece of equipment” on most large farms in any nation of the world? However, the problem is these farmers only represent 2% of the world’s population. And not all these farmers are not yet brave enough to protest so the other 90% (maybe) can see the evil that is being done..

    Hi Solarsmurph,

Our problem is too few people old enough to remember the older times, to which you refer, ate.still living and even fewer, like you and me, are reading articles and making comments here at PSI.

    Hi PSI Readers,

I discovered the following on the website of Wildfires Today. It illustrates how local community organizations can get involved to solve problems instead of expecting governments to be the solution to problems they see.

“Monks on frontline of wildfire prevention in New Mexico
Author Hunter BasslerPosted on August 12, 2024Categories 2012 Whitewater-Baldy Fire, New Mexico, Prevention
In the Christian Bible’s opening book, God calls on humanity to work and keep Earth. It’s this calling that Brother Lawrence at the Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery refers to when asked why he and his monastic brothers have become pillars of wildfire prevention in Silver City, New Mexico.

“Management is something that has been given to man by God,” Lawrence told the USFS. “In Genesis, Man is put as a steward over nature. And so we need to go out there and do our part in allowing the ecosystem to grow and flourish.”

The monastery is a longstanding champion for the Gila Landscape Collaborative, a community project formed a decade ago focused on protecting the Gila National Forest. The collaboration is partnered with the USFS Silver City Ranger District to get “buy-in” from the community to increase Firewise work on and adjacent to landowners’ properties.

The monastery was founded in 1990 by Father Cyprian Rodriguez who sought an area of solitude. While remote, the forest was in poor condition when Rodriguez arrived. The area became overgrown through the (in)action of early settlers and historic mining operations, leaving the forest ripe for wildfire. The monastery’s initial efforts to be stewards of the land, however, ended up backfiring.

“There’s been efforts to restore the forest by bringing in species of trees that now have overtaken and become too dense,” Brother Santiago told the USFS. “Perhaps this is the situation for us, but it’s the same for the entire forest, where fire suppression for years has built up the ground fuels. Now, when a fire crew tries to suppress a fire, it’s too much. It’s out of control.”

The Whitewater Baldy Complex was one such out of control fire the monastery faced. The 2012 wildfire burned over 297,000 acres and destroyed 12 structures. The complex originally began as two fires, the Whitewater Fire managed under a suppression strategy and the Baldy Fire managed and monitored under a “modified suppression” model.

The near-constant smoke which impacted the monastery during the complex and the long-lasting burn scars left in its wake motivated the brotherhood to begin focusing on fuel reduction efforts and spreading the good word of fire safety throughout their community.

“The Benedictines have unique perspectives, values, and insights they bring to the table,” Silver City Ranger District Fuels Planner Daniel London said. “It’s also valuable to have someone outside the government stressing the importance of this work. They live here. They have a special connection to it. They’re some of the best people to share this important message.”
