Corruption of Physics 4: Nobel Prize to Spooky Action at Distance

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 was awarded to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger.

The awards were for
  • Experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.
  • Their results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information.

In other words, the Prize was awarded by showing that Einstein was wrong when questioning the idea of entangled photons with spooky action at distance, as if two photons could be in instant contact even if widely separated in space.

Einstein never accepted the canon of the Copenhagen Interpretation CI of the new quantum mechanics dictated by Bohr and Born in the 1920s and still dominating, and so was expelled from the physics community along with Schrödinger as the inventor of the Schrödinger equation for the Hydrogen Atom.

Einstein could not accept spooky action at distance nor the statistical interpretation in CI expressed with his famous God does not play dice. Schrödinger could not give up local reality or Anschaulichkeit as a reality existing in three space dimensions even if not observed by a human being or instrument.

The controversy between Bohr/Born and Einstein/Schrödinger, that has never be reconciled, has had catastrofical consequences for the development of modern physics through the 20th century into our days.

The 2022 Prize is an expression of the resulting collapse of reality behind string theory, multiversa, dark matter/energy and black holes occupying the minds of physicists today with lofty promises of quantum computers from superposition and entanglement always far from realisation.

Quantum mechanics started in 1925 with Schrödinger’s equation for the Hydrogen atom as a classical continuum wave equation for a negatively charged one electron cloud under Coulomb attraction from a positively charged pointwise kernel/proton, expressed in a wave function Ψ(x,t)  depending on a three dimensional space variable x and a time variable t, with the square of the wave function expressing charge density.

This model showed precise agreement with the spectrum of Hydrogen as a formidable stunning success of theoretical physics and Schrödinger instantly rocketed to fame.

But the trouble started already with the Helium atom with two electrons. A quick solution directly presented itself as a direct mathematical generalisation to an atom with N>1 electrons simply by formulating a linear multi-dimensional wave equation in a wave function Ψ(x1,x2,..xN,t) depending on N three-dimensional space variables x1,x2,...,xN, as if each electron occupies its own three-dimensional space.

A mathematician could make such a generalisation with a stroke of the pen, just like extending the real line into a space of any dimension in linear algebra. With such a wave function electrons are entangled unless the multi-dimensional wave function is a product of one-dimensional wave functions, which is too simple to work.

Electron entanglement is thus directly ingrained by definition through a truely multi-dimensional wave function, as well as superposition by linearity.

The direct question confronting Schrödinger was if this formal mathematical generalisation with a stroke of the pen could have any physical meaning? Schrödinger concluded that a wave depending on 3N space variables cannot be Anschaulich or represent any reality, and he could not accept Born’s resort to instead a statistical interpretation, and so Schrödinger left quantum mechanics already at its start, or rather like Einstein was kicked out.

There we stand today: The holy grail of quantum mechanics is a linear multi-dimensional wave equation/function without local reality but with entanglement and spooky action at distance ingrained by definition, claimed to always be in exact agreement with observation, although uncomputable by multi-dimensionality.

This is not something, whether you are physicist or not, which you can question, and it is then ironic that the 2022 Prize is given to experimental work performed in the 1970s supposedly showing that Einstein was wrong, that is to show something which was accepted as a truth already 90 years ago.

It is as if Einstein’s ghost is still haunting physics, by asking questions which again and again have to be dismissed as being silly, without ever being answered satisfactorily.

The state of quantum mechanics today as witnessed by all prominent physicists is that quantum mechanics is weird, with weirdness increasing with prominence. As an example let us just listen to what 2022 Nobel Laureate Anton Zeilinger, named the Quantum Pope, has to say in the concluding words of his book Dance of the Photons with title What Does It All Mean?:

  • We have learned that the idea that the world exists in all its properties independent of us, independent of the kinds of observations we perform, is in trouble.
  • It now becomes clear why Einstein had to criticize quantum mechanics, why he called entanglement “spooky.” His picture of the real, factual reality that exists in its essential properties independent of us, this picture of a separation of reality and information, does not seem to be tenable in quantum physics.
  • We also learned that a specific philosophical view has been definitely ruled out by the experiment. This is the concept of local realism. Local realism is the point of view that whatever we observe is defined in some way by a real physical property of the observed systems, a property that exists before and independently of our observation.
  • We also learned that the quantum world is governed by a qualitatively new kind of randomness. The individual measurement result is purely random, without any possibility of detailed causal explanation. It is not just that we do not know what the cause is. This is probably the most fascinating consequence in quantum physics. Just imagine: centuries of scientific research, centuries of the search for causes, and attempts to explain why things happen just the way they happen lead us to a final wall.

What Zeilinger says/admits is that the idea of factual reality is in trouble and does not seem tenable and attempts to explain why things happen the way they happen has led to a final wall, all based on a very tricky photon experiment saying nothing about the real world.

For this he is awarded the Nobel Prize.

My conclusion (see also previous post) is that physics is in trouble by the fact that the holy grail in the form of the linear multi-dimensional Schrödinger equation, is not tenable. And yours?

The ghost of Plato haunts everything, even physics, despite the efforts of Galileo, Einstein and others.

I am so fed up with reading this argument and with these clever, knowledgeable fools with certificates on their walls. I don’t care how many certificates or prizes they’ve got, this is just plain wrong. I agree with Einstein, he was right. Think about the nature of spacetime, I mean, the combination of space and time. If you understand general relativity and its implications, then you understand that you can never have space without time, but there is a subtle property that these clever scientists overlook. That is, if you start the clock then space comes into being along with the starting of the process of time. When you have time, you automatically get space along with it. Put simply, if time passes slower, then dimensions shrink, and if time stops altogether, then space shrinks to zero volume. The classic example of this is the event horizon of a black hole where time has stopped, and space has shrunk to zero volume. Anything that “exists” on this horizon has no height and is “spread out” all over the EV. However, if you were to somehow create space on its own, (yes, I know I just said that is impossible), you would not automatically get time. Time “creates” space, but space is just an artifact of time, it creates nothing. You could say, time is real, but space is emergent from time. For two entangled particles, eg. an electron and its positron, they “communicate” instantly whatever the distance between them and this is what is referred to in the article. I quote Fotini Marcopolo, (ex. Perimeter Institute), “Two entangled particles are effectively touching”, meaning as far as they are concerned, there is no space separating them, so the communication does remain local. But, for a situation where we have effectively no space, then we must accept that there is no time as far as the two particles are concerned. The two particles experience no time, and therefore, no space and their mutual relationship, with all their properties linking them, is still there and does not break the rules, (locality and the speed of light). Certainly, the distance between them is real, but only to us observers, to them, there IS no distance. If you want to understand why or how there is no time between them you need to read my book, The Binary Universe – A Theory of Time. But I can give you some idea by considering a binary energy field with two waves of energy, 180 degrees out of phase, both made up of energy “quanta”, with each set of quanta alternating in series. The waves cancel to a net zero energy, (almost). This is the powerhouse of the universe, providing the energy for all processes. The quanta and the waves are pure potential energy, but with the waves, comes the phenomena of time, the process of time. Time is the energy to move all entities within the field through change, either into the future (by default), or into their new state. Time is wavelike. If you don’t believe me then ask yourself “Why is light wavelike?” This is why all energy, no matter what its form, will slow down time locally. The energetic process has to get its energy from this field, from the waves, from time, and so time dilates, it red shifts where there is energy. Now consider two adjacent quanta in each wave, I call them “quantum couples” for they are indeed coupled, inextricably coupled forever, the ultimate entanglement. Now consider two entangled particles. They are like these coupled energy quanta, coupled forever, no matter what, and because they are linked in this wave, they “surf” the waves of time together, holding hands, forever linked, just like the fundamental energy quanta. There IS no time between them and so there IS no space between them, and their “communications” do not break the limit of the speed of light. I’ll have to stop there since, as you can see, I am re writing my book and this post is not big enough.

      T.C.,
      Correct, as usual.
Physics and celestial observation by telescopes has always been a battle of egos.
For background information, please look up the history of invention of the Chronometer. Benjamin Harrison, a simple country carpenter who built clocks…

Today’s pretend astronomers and physicists are insecure guys bragging about penis size to their cartoon girlfriends.
None of this stuff makes any difference to actual life on Earth.

Perhaps, one of the brilliant, genius insecure men could figure out how to desalinate water for people living in remote, crappy environments??
