A Colder World Than in the Past
Undisputed temperature reconstructions from around the world show the planet was much warmer over most of the Holocene (past 10,000 years) than it is today. (1)
The Alps were ice-free 6000 years ago, when CO2 was much lower than today’s levels. (2)
A wealth of new research in glacier and sea ice extent show modern Iceland is 2-4 C colder than all of the last 8000 years except for a slightly colder late 19th century. Even the 1700s were warmer with less ice than today in and around the country. (3,4) There is nothing to indicate modern warmth or ice recession in and around Iceland is unprecedented or even unusual.
Taken as a whole, there has been no real warming in the United Kingdom since 1995. Eight of 14 stations show cooling or no warming trend. Though the mean fall temperature rose over the course of the 20th century, it hasn’t risen this century. This defies the often heard media claims of warming by the climate alarmists. (5)
A plot for Ireland also shows the same story: no real change in over 30 years. Four of Ireland’s 6 stations show cooling temperatures. Two are warming, but not significantly by any measure.
A temperature reconstruction from the Canadian Arctic going back 7000 years shows it was warmer then. (1)
South America going back 100 years was much warmer from the 1930s to the 1950s than it is today.
When American climate scientists claim to have witnessed the effects of global warming, they must be referring to a time beyond 14 years ago reports James Taylor. That is because there has been no warming in the United States since at least 2005, according to updated data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). If anything, US temperatures are now slightly cooler than they were 14 years ago. (6)
There is also good reason to believe US temperatures have not warmed at all since the 1930s. Raw temperature readings at the preexisting stations indicate temperatures are the same now as 80 years ago.
Unfortunately, when politicians and climate activists claim they can see the impacts of climate change in a particular place, the media rarely questions them on it and tend to accept the claims at face value. But the objective temperature data show no recent warming has occurred. (6)
