Europe Now Colder And Drier Than Most Of Last 9,000 Years
A new European Alps hydroclimate reconstruction spanning the years 8980 BC to 2014 CE has been derived from the stable isotopes of 192 trees (Arosio et al., 2025)
The reconstruction clearly distinguishes centennial-scale warm periods such as the Medieval Warm Period, Roman Warm Period, and millennial-scale African Humid Period (when the Sahara was green, lake- and fauna-covered).
These warmer centuries (millennia) were accompanied by wetter, much more humid climates.
In contrast, the coldest centuries of the Holocene, such as the Little Ice Age (18th and 19th centuries) and Late Antique Little Ice Age (6th century), had the driest hydroclimates with the “most severe summer droughts of the past 9,000 years.”
Mass migration punctuated these cold periods.
Interestingly, the hydroclimate reconstruction shows the modern period (1900-2014) is no wetter (or warmer) than the 19th century’s Little Ice Age – the coldest, driest period of the last 9,000 years.
There has been no dramatic change or “uptick” in the last century.

Editor’s note: this study reinforces the graph Hubert Lamb at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit created, which the IPCC used in their first assessment report back in 1990. It clearly shows the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than today. Then the IPCC became totally politicised and replaced Hubert Lamb’s graph with Micheal Mann’s infamous Hokey Schtick, as Lord Monckton so comically nicknamed it.

It seems we are overdue for another cooling event, if it has not already started. The study impetus should be in this direction, not global warming.

Hi Robert,
I have recently begun measuring the “temperature of the cloudless sky” with a infrared thermometer and even during midday the temperature is below 10F and near sunrise it has been neg-10 for a few days earlier.
Except for high elevations and Antarctica I do not believe there have been any glaciers but in the USA and Europe there is clear evidence of glaciers below 45 degrees latitude and there is some evidence that the glacial periods are cyclic with a period of about 15,000 years plus or minus a 1,000 years or so.
Hence I believe life will end where I live in Salem OR within a 1,000 years or less.
Have a good day

Hi Jerry,
Good to hear from you again. How did you find out that PSI has gone .com instead of the .org of yesteryear?
In Brisbane we froze at 20oC today, it is hard to imagine what -10oF wound be like during the day.
The Brazilians have recorded increase in humidity over the recent years. This is in keeping with hotter seas, and is consistent with rising CO2 levels in the atmosphere – as per Henry’s Law.
What this means is snow collects preferentially on the high ground, as you noted. It also increases the albedo effect, so earth cooling accelerates regardless of sea temperature rises.
We live in a wonderful world, if you don’t weaken.

Hi Robert,
As I tried. to find these comments again I have found AI must changed the address of PSI. I am getting age problems big time. Sight, forgetfulness, balance. fingers don’t stay on home keys etc. However I keep plugging away and really hope we can keep a discussion going.
Richard Feynman wrote “all things are made of atoms–little particles that move around in perpetual motion … . For my thesis research I studied high temperature diffusion of lead and cadmium
divalent ions in NaCl single crystals. I just realized that this diffusion is evidence of this perpetual motion. We know the molecules of a gas are in constant motion as the gas tries to fill all space regardless of the influence of gravity which only reduces the temperature of a parcel of many gaseous molecules but it has not action upon the individual gaseous molecules. Hence gaseous molecules are continually evaporating from oceans’ surfaces as they try to fill all space with water molecules. Hence comets leave visible tails as the comet’s nucleus is heated by our Sun’s radiation because the space of our solar system is saturated with water molecules. Ponder this.
Have a good day

Hi Robert,
Have you ever looked at this (https://raws.dri.edu) USA weather station data? The fuel temperature is being measured inside a wooden dowel about 4 feet below where the atmospheric temperature is traditionally measured. So about 1 foot above the ground. If you haven’t looked at this data, please do.
Have a good day

Thanks for your comments Jerry,
I am glad to hear you only found out about .org -> .com change by accident. I thought I must have missed something which went into the trash bin!
I haven’t seen the website you refer to, and I will check it out, but I think we are on the same page.

I note “ The following pages are still under construction”, but the site generally shows a great deal of detail. Thanks for the reference.
