WATCH: This Laser Weapon Designed By The Navy Is AWESOME
CNN recently showcased the world’s first “active laser weapon,” deployed by the Navy.
Aboard the USS Ponce amphibious transport ship, the Laser Weapons System (LaWS) can be used against either airborne or surface targets.
The LaWS fires at the speed of light; 50,000 times faster than an intercontinental ballistic missile.
Lt. Cale Hughes commented on the LaWS’ immunity to certain environmental concerns common among other weapons: “It is throwing massive amounts of photons at an incoming object. We don’t worry about the wind, we don’t worry about range, we don’t worry about anything else. We’re able to engage the targets at the speed of light.”
CNN observed and recorded a successful test-firing of the LaWS on a drone. Watch it below.
