As the UK bakes in its fifth heatwave of a parched summer ‘extreme’ record breaking temperatures are touted. But these ‘records’ are at low-grade, unreliable outlier weather stations.

These paid-off charlatans have their bank balances depending on it. We are told that global average temperatures have risen by precisely one-point-something degrees Celsius since pre-industrial times, and that each passing year brings new, terrifying records, measured down to the hundredth of a degree.

The precision is the rhetoric. But precision without accuracy is not science—it is propaganda. And the instruments upon which these proclamations rest are not merely questionable; in many cases, they are demonstrably, almost absurdly, unfit for purpose.
The United Kingdom, the birthplace of modern meteorology, offers a case study in official negligence so egregious that, were it not attached to a sacred cause, it would invite criminal investigation. The Met Office, custodian of the national climate record, maintains approximately 380 surface observation stations.

What Homewood and others are exposing is that the empirical backbone of Britain’s contribution to global temperature datasets is a methodological farce.
Astonishingly, only 14% of Britain’s stations meet the basic siting standards set by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)—the very body whose criteria are supposed to underpin credible climatology. The other 86% fail. They do not fail by narrow, technical margins. They fail catastrophically.
According to the WMO’s own classification system, almost half of UK stations are rated Class 4, a designation the WMO itself describes as unreliable for trend detection. A further third are rated Class 5—a tier so compromised that the WMO explicitly labels it as unsuitable for any serious climate analysis.
These are not my words; they are the standards of the global meteorological community. Translated into plain English, nearly 80% of the UK’s temperature monitoring infrastructure is, to varying degrees, producing junk data. And yet, it is from this corrupted wellspring that the Met Office confidently draws its headline-grabbing records.
Researcher Finds Proof Met Office is Inflating UK Maximum Temperature Records
Consider the error margins. Almost 80% of Met Office stations have known uncertainties of up to 2°C. That is not a trivial wobble; it is an uncertainty range that can swallow an entire century’s worth of alleged warming. In some cases, the error balloons to an astonishing 5°C. Five degrees. The entire global temperature anomaly that supposedly constitutes the climate emergency is approximately 1.2°C above pre-industrial levels, if one accepts the homogenized data.
Yet individual stations in the network, feeding into that global composite, are so degraded that they cannot reliably tell whether the temperature has risen, fallen, or remained static within a 5°C bracket. To then issue proclamations of new records broken by a hundredth of a degree—a fraction so fine it would challenge laboratory-grade platinum resistance thermometers under controlled conditions—is not merely ironic. It is an offence against the scientific method.
New UK Temperature Record at Kew Cooked Up To Push Net Zero?
The siting sins are not hidden. They are visible to anyone who cares to look, though the media gaze resolutely elsewhere. The Met Office station at Heathrow Airport sits in a cauldron of tarmac, jet exhaust, and concrete, measuring not the unperturbed atmosphere but the thermal exhaust of one of the world’s busiest transport hubs. St James’s Park in central London is a picturesque spot for a stroll, but as a site for global climate monitoring, it is a thermodynamic joke, nestled amid buildings, pavements, and the relentless heat island of the metropolis.
These are not exceptions. Across the country, weather stations squat beside asphalt roads, radiating surfaces, air conditioning vents, and brick walls—all of which are explicitly forbidden by WMO guidelines. The result is a systemic warm bias.
And here is the deeper intellectual dishonesty: alternative datasets, which avoid the fatal flaws of surface stations, tell a far more moderate story. Satellite records, such as those maintained by the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) and Remote Sensing Systems (RSS), measure the temperature of the lower troposphere with global coverage and consistent instrumentation, free from urban heat bias.
Is the U.S. Getting Hot… or Not?
The high-grade US Climate Reference Network (USCRN), a modern system of pristine, triple-redundant stations, shows significantly less warming than the homogenized legacy network it was designed to replace.
These datasets reveal a modest, gradual warming entirely consistent with the planet’s ongoing emergence from the Little Ice Age—a natural climatic recovery that began long before the industrial revolution’s carbon emissions reached meaningful levels.
The warming is slight, it is unalarming, and it demands no desperate, impoverishing policy response.
