Subsidies paid to fund new wind farm sites, known as Contracts for Difference (CfDs), currently add £30 a year to household power bills, but this will rise to £70 by 2030, according to a report from think tank Onward.
These wind farm subsidies will add about £6bn to all UK bills.
A former subsidy system for wind farms, known as the Renewables Obligation and closed in 2017, will add £8bn to this year’s bills, falling slowly to £7bn in 2030, it said.
In a breakdown of household energy bills, Onward found that the cost of electricity itself comprised just 34 percent of the average power bill.
For the average household power bill of £963, electricity accounted for just £324, and the transmission network added £200 – but carbon taxes, VAT and levies for renewables added a further £300.
There are about nine such levies added to bills, of which CfDs are among the fastest-growing.
Government data published this week show that the six main such levies will add £14bn to bills this year, rising to just under £19bn by 2030.
Onward warned that carbon taxes, levies for renewables and VAT are already adding 30 percent to the average power bill – a proportion set to rise relentlessly as more wind, solar and other low-carbon generation sources are added to the system.
“Our analysis shows that the combined effect of taxes on power generators, policy levies and renewable subsidy mechanisms like CfDs is to add 30 percent – or £285 – to the average household’s energy bill,” said the report.

Sadly, the UK is a coffin waiting to be filled and buried. Reading some things about the medical system confirms this idea. Throw in fake global warming theatrics and it don’t look good.
