Canada Scraps EV Mandate After Consumer Backlash

Canadian prime minister Mark Carney’s “lofty goals” are meaningless. He knows full well that the vast majority of Canadians don’t want useless EVs, no matter how big the subsidies he pays out
Around the world, there is a push back from the public against being forced to buy things they don’t want.
LifeSite News reported:
After backlash from consumers, Canadian premiers, automakers, and industry groups, the Canadian government more or less scrapped its total Electric Vehicle (EV) 2035 mandate.
In a February 5 press conference, Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney said instead it will heavily incentivize Canadians to buy EVs and put in place tougher greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for model years 2027 to 2032.
The government will then put in place goals to have an EV adoption rate of 75 percent by 2035, with a lofty goal of 90 percent adoption by 2040.
“The more stringent emission standards will enable the government of Canada to repeal the electric vehicle accessibility standard,” he told reporters.
The new rules essentially kill the 2035 total EV mandate put in place by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
However, the new rules still heavily promote EVs, which do not do as well in the cold Canadian climate and are far more expensive for the average family to purchase.
Full story here.
European carmakers have already forced the EU to abandon the ban on ICE cars, while Trump has ditched Biden’s EV programmes.
And after the election, we too will be rid of EV mandates as well, and good riddance to it.

Nothing has been scrapped, the rules have been changed to make it necessary to go electric. The Canadian PM is a liar.

Paul Homewood, you’ve been had! Read this quote carefully,
“Liberal Prime Minister Mark Carney said instead it will heavily incentivize Canadians to buy EVs and put in place tougher greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for model years 2027 to 2032.”
This isn’t a U-turn, this is a 360°, policy change that gets the same results but bye a different method. As part of that, news release, by the Prime Minister he did not say how many grams of CO2, kilometre will be allowed in 2035, or 2040, but he did say that they will be big enough to,, encourage 75% of, buyers to choose EV by 2035 and 90% of them by 2040. He did allow that by 2027 the CO2 emission standard will behave from the present 150 g of CO2 per kilometre traveled. Buy 2015 Subaru Legacy the standard of 200 g of CO2 per kilometre when it was built, , and all the technology has improved, I don’t think many cars will make the standard in 2027 unless there is a tremendous breakthrough in internal combustion engine technology. A moped might make the new standard, provide a new pedal half the time!
