The Lancet: stigmatising the unvaccinated is not justified

In the USA and Germany, high-level officials have used the term pandemic of the unvaccinated, suggesting that people who have been vaccinated are not relevant in the epidemiology of COVID-19. Officials’ use of this phrase might have encouraged one scientist to claim that “the unvaccinated threaten the vaccinated for COVID-19”.

But this view is far too simple.

There is increasing evidence that vaccinated individuals continue to have a relevant role in transmission. In Massachusetts, USA, a total of 469 new COVID-19 cases were detected during various events in July, 2021, and 346 (74 percent) of these cases were in people who were fully or partly vaccinated, 274 (79 percent) of whom were symptomatic.

Cycle threshold values were similarly low between people who were fully vaccinated (median 22·8) and people who were unvaccinated, not fully vaccinated, or whose vaccination status was unknown (median 21·5), indicating a high viral load even among people who were fully vaccinated.

In the USA, a total of 10 262 COVID-19 cases were reported in vaccinated people by April 30, 2021, of whom 2725 (26·6 percent) were asymptomatic, 995 (9·7 percent) were hospitalised, and 160 (1·6 percent) died.

In Germany, 55·4 percent of symptomatic COVID-19 cases in patients aged 60 years or older were in fully vaccinated individuals, and this proportion is increasing each week. In Münster, Germany, new cases of COVID-19 occurred in at least 85 (22 percent) of 380 people who were fully vaccinated or who had recovered from COVID-19 and who attended a nightclub.

People who are vaccinated have a lower risk of severe disease but are still a relevant part of the pandemic.

It is therefore wrong and dangerous to speak of a pandemic of the unvaccinated.

Historically, both the USA and Germany have engendered negative experiences by stigmatising parts of the population for their skin colour or religion.

I call on high-level officials and scientists to stop the inappropriate stigmatisation of unvaccinated people, who include our patients, colleagues, and other fellow citizens, and to put extra effort into bringing society together.

The unclean…the non believers…..must be concentrated in camps? The Johns-Hopkins site has daily graphs and the US and the UK still show new cases elevated….I don’t trust charts from many countries like China but the UK and US must have the most reliable numbers. Something has to give…soon. Both UK and US have over 50% vax rate and probably 20% have had the virus and 5% have not had virus but will be little bothered by it….that leaves about 25% to be producing the high infection rate….the “numbahs” don’t add up……the number that can be infected shrinks daily yet new infections keep climbing. How many variants can be produced? Can an almost infinite number be produced?

As I am and never will be “injected”, all it means is that I am free of any injections. To label me as such and such is totally meaningless and is only used as a threat or to put me into some box. I love being a 110% anti-vaxxer. And so what of it, Mr. government?

The “vaccines” either work or don’t work, there is no in between.

Clearly the injections don’t work as a traditional vaccine. The vaccinated shouldn’t live in fear of the unvaccinated and vice versa. Hundreds of thousands of people have died and/or suffered from adverse effects. It’s unconscienable they haven’t STOPPED this human experimentation.

As it is a medical fact that partially and fully vaccinated people can transmit the disease it’s futile to try to point the finger at unvaccinated. There is a high probability most of the unvaccinated have contracted covid at some point and have natural immunity now.
The problem lays at the feet of governments and media constantly pushing the fear agenda which has led to irrational panic and anxiety among the public. They are now angrily looking for someone to blame in order to make sense of why the vaccines are not stopping the spread instead of facing the reality that the vaccines are not working as well as hoped.
Also there is deafening silence regarding those people that cannot for legitimate reasons take the vaccine. Why is that? Those people are a conundrum for the authorities. They can’t be mandated to take the jab yet they can’t be allowed the high profiling of the double vaxxed. They are the governments square pegs that won’t fit into the establishments round holes.
I would hope that people can be mature enough to accept it’s not any one category or group of people that are spreading the virus, it’s everyone.
I haven’t seen any reports yet, of the virus asking a potential host if they have been vaccinated or not before it infects. As I understand it the virus isn’t too fussy about its host as long as it can survive and spread
A wise man/ woman would stop avoiding the reality that’s staring them in the face and start to move forward together to eradicate the gaping divide that vaccines have created
